One popular conspiracy theory surrounding JonBenet Ramsey, the 6-year-old child beauty queen whose nearly-three-decades-old murder remains unsolved even today, is her link to Katy Perry. A viral AI-generated video is making rounds on social media, fueling the rumor that Perry is Ramsey. One such post recently surfaced on Instagram, prompting the pop sensation to address these claims with a cheeky response that left fans in splits.
According to CNN, Ramsey’s killing dates back to 1996 when her father found her dead in the basement of their Colorado home on December 26. Before making the discovery, the girl’s mom, Patsy, even found a lengthy ransom note asking for $118,000 and the family reported her missing. It wouldn’t be until hours later that they would find her body with a rope tied around her neck. The victim had died of blunt force trauma and strangulation.
Katy Perry acknowledges conspiracy theory video claiming her to be JonBenet Ramsey
Katy Perry cheekily responded to a JonBenet Ramsey conspiracy theory video on Instagram, claiming her to be the slain child. The eerie, AI-generated clip showed a photo of the 6-year-old, whose infamous murder case has been in the headlines for nearly three decades now, morphing into Perry. They had the same outfits on in the video and similar blonde hair with the text over it reading, “WAKE UP PPL.” Buzzfeed stated that the rumor first surfaced in 2014, claiming that Ramsey’s murder was actually a hoax and that these two were the same person.
This time, the singer not only acknowledged the Instagram video but also dropped an apt response in the comments. Playing along with the post, she wrote, “Wait am i.” Another commenter pointed out how her reply made “this even better” while one more remarked it was their “favorite conspiracy theory EVER.” Many others claimed the video was “in poor taste” because of Ramsey’s brutal murder and urged not to “disrespect that little girl like this.”
Previously, in 2014, a since-deleted YouTube video titled, “‘JonBenet Ramsey’ is singer ‘Katy Perry,'” made wild claims about the two being the same person. The video suggested that Ramsey’s parents, John and Patsy, faked their daughter’s death in 1996 and that the couple were Perry’s real parents.
Over the years, Ramsey’s murder case has been at the center of multiple documentaries. Netflix’s “Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey” is one of the recent ones that includes new details pertaining to the unsolved case as detectives chase potential leads using DNA evidence.
