Wihan du Toit is not performing well as a Bosun on Below Deck Down Under Season 3. If you ask us, his firing is imminent from this series.

Wihan came on board with a solid resume. However, despite his je ne sais quoi with certain ladies in his cast, his interpersonal skills between departments, including his own, are off. If a Bosun cannot communicate, problems can quickly mount. Likewise, if a Bosun cannot listen to the suggestions of their fellow deckhands with an open, ego-free mind, accidents can happen with their guests, which we already saw transpiring in Episode 6.

When working on yachts, safety is king. So are skills like communication, leadership, and an overall respectful attitude towards your colleagues on board. Wihan is failing in all these areas, which we will rehash now.

The BDDU Season 3 trailer teased a department head firing with Wihan du Toit in tears

When the trailer for BDDU Season 3 dropped, we got our first glimpse of a firing. However, the name of this canned employee was not evident in these purposefully snipped clips. Instead, all we learned was that, at some point during this season, Captain Jason Chambers would have to send one of his three department heads home early.

The other two potentially sacked yachties are Chief Stew Lara Rigby and the Chef, Tzarina Mace-Ralph. Have both of these women gotten bogged down with burdens in their positions? Yes. But not enough so that either of their firings would be justified (yet).

In contrast, Wihan has faced multiple problems on deck, and several of his mistakes have included justifiable reasons for his early release. Also, Captain Jason noted that this fired human failed to play nicely with other leaders on board. As Captain Jason said this, the cameras cut to Wihan, nodding with watery eyes that he understood this statement. Out of these three potentially fired leaders, we think that Wihan is the most likely culprit.

During Episode 5, Wihan learned of an issue with a jet ski. But, after Adair Werley and Johnny Arvanitis spoke to Wihan about this potentially dangerous water-logged ski, Wihan waved this ski off with India, a charter guest sitting atop. Making matters worse, India did not know how to swim. Luckily for her, Johnny was also sitting on her ski.

In Episode 6, Johnny and India capsized. Johnny reacted quickly, comforting India as they awaited rescue. As for Wihan, he was watching from afar on his ski, only moving after his co-rider, another charter guest, mentioned that they might need to assist India.

Captain Jason then called Wihan into his wheelhouse for a quick debrief about this near-catastrophic event. Here, Wihan failed again by omitting his part. Instead of taking ownership, Wihan suggested that the guest only capsized after they released their gas pedal. Captain Jason rightfully called this odd.

Quickly, Wihan admitted that the ski perhaps leaked, but he drained it before use. However, we all saw Adair and Johnny state that water was still in that ski. Captain Jason demanded that Wihan stand accountable. Wihan is on his radar now, which makes us think that Wihan is the next BDDU yachtie to walk the plank in Season 3.

The Below Deck Down Under crew are growing tired of Wihan du Toit

Wihan is also selfish with his time. He has to share Adair with the interior department, which is struggling with their extra-large yacht. Yet, whenever Lara asks Wihan for help, Wihan grows annoyed. Instead of working as a team, Wihan constantly finds ways to shut Lara down, including asking his team to look busy so Lara will leave them alone.

Lara is also annoyed at Wihan for messing “with her girls.” His late-night make-out sessions with Tzarina and Marina Marcondes de Barros are wreaking havoc on their mindsets. But no, they kissed him, Wihan replied.

Later, Wihan ticked off another crew member when he stopped by the galley to chat with the new sous-chef, Alesia Harris. Whatever she was doing was not important, he suggested. Therefore, Wihan needed her to drop everything and make Adair a cheese plate for his unsecured date.

Alesia shut him down, poking fun at his wayward ways with multiple women on board. Wihan was pissed.

In the preview for Episode 8, Alesia will soon apologize to Wihan. She did not mean to make waves, she explains. Naturally, Wihan reads her apology with his lower brain, suggesting Alesia now has a thing for him, which, WHAT? Regardless, Wihan is ticking off too many people for his stay to remain intact on BDDU Season 3.

Wihan du Toit is prioritizing his needs over those of the Below Deck Down Under yacht

When Captain Jason asked the department heads to work hard at planning an excursion for their guests, a lovesick Wihan ran away from the yacht to write Adair a love letter instead. On deck, his team grew annoyed. They audibly wondered where their boss was hiding. Nevertheless, Harry, Adair, and Johnny forged ahead, picking up the slack for their supposedly errand-running boss.

Likewise, Wihan continually refers to Harry Van Vliet for advice and leadership tasks on deck, which Harry notes feels strange. If a list needs to happen, the creation of this list is on Wihan, not Harry. But, like he has avoided every excursion this far, Wihan is also finding ways to avoid doing his job, and his team is starting to take notice of his ways.

On Watch What Happens Live, Harry recently offered Wihan grace for this season. He thinks Wihan “has [a] passion for the job,” but he is more focused on love than work. As a Bosun, if Wihan cannot get his head out of the heart-shaped clouds, he deserves an early exit from his gig on BDDU Season 3.

The many missteps of Wihan du Toit are also jeopardizing the charter guests’ experiences on BDDU Season 3

It is one thing to annoy your colleagues and superiors. But Wihan’s antics are also now affecting the charter guests. As these guests pay their crews handsomely with tips, you can guarantee a smaller envelope will only further ignite any annoyances his coworkers feel.

In Episode 7, the guest’s long-awaited beach picnic arrived with poor communication at the helm. This narrative sucked, as we all saw Captain Jason’s earlier urging, asking his department heads to flesh this day out to help avoid any issues once their guests were on land. To their credit, Tzarina, Lara, and Adair all asked thought-provoking questions about this day, but Wihan decided to play things by ear, failing to accurately time out how long each leg of this excursion might take.

As the preview for Episode 8 shows, the guest’s meal is now growing cold, thanks to poor times given by Wihan to Tzarina. Likewise, their guests are exhausted, as Wihan failed to time how long their bike rides were. Couple this experience with that of India several beats ago, and we now have a pattern of lesser thrilled charter guests, all courtesy of oversights by Wihan. If you ask me, for all of these reasons, Wihan is the most likely yachtie to get fired from BDDU Season 3.
