This should come as no surprise, but the Jake Paul and Logan Paul reality show is terrible. That’s not just our opinion — that’s the opinion of pretty much every entertainment publication that had the displeasure of watching their new reality series, Paul American.
Paul American is streaming on HBO Max, which used to be the home of reality shows like Legendary and We’re Here. These days, the execs at Warner Bros. seem to be more focused on pushing out slop. How did they stray so far from the light?
Is Jake Paul and Logan Paul’s reality show Paul American worth watching?
In short, no. Paul American is not really worth your time or your brain cells. The official synopsis for the new reality show reads, “Global sports and entertainment superstars Jake and Logan Paul pull back the curtain for their latest venture: a family reality TV show.”
Of course, the “family reality TV show” genre was perfected by the Kardashians in the 2010s. That show worked because some of their family members had some lovable qualities. We all had a love/hate relationship with that family. The problem with Paul American is we can’t find a single redeemable quality.
Season 1 of Paul American follows Jake as he prepares for his bizarre boxing match with Mike Tyson. Meanwhile, Logan and his fiancée learn that they’re expecting a baby. As a viewer, you’re expected to care, but realistically, why would you? These are the same dudes who have built an entire brand on being public nuisances. If you didn’t watch them on YouTube, TikTok, or any of the other platforms they’ve tried to conquer, there’s no need to start now.
Across the board, critics have agreed that this show is a flop. A writer for Variety said that the show felt like “consuming empty calories,” and those three words sum it up perfectly. Regardless, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Max greenlight a Paul American Season 2.
Paul American is streaming on Max.
