Ariana DeBose Dismisses Rachel Zegler ‘Snow White’ Shade

Ariana DeBose has spoken out to clarify that she did not direct a shade towards Rachel Zegler in a since-deleted post. The situation arose after the actor shared a quote on her Instagram. The phrase came from a recent comment by the son of “Snow White” producer Marc Platt to criticize Zegler following the Disney film’s poor box office performance. However, after the quote garnered attention, DeBose claimed she was unaware of its “origins.”

Ariana DeBose took to her Instagram to dismiss rumors that she recently tried to shade her “West Side Story” co-star Rachel Zegler. Variety reported that the 34-year-old recently shared a quote in a since-deleted Instagram post. It read, “Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged.” DeBose has now spoken out to claim that she did not know the phrase came from a statement criticizing Zegler.

DeBose wrote on her Instagram Story that she posts “quotes all the time.” She also noted that she “thought this one was meaningful.” The actor-singer continued, “Will fully cop to the fact I did not do any research on where this quote came from,” and added, “nor did I know of the connection until it was pointed out to me.” DeBose wrote that she has “no intention of inserting” herself into a “news cycle.”

DeBose further explained that it was not the “first time” she “posted about dealing with narcissism.” The “Love Hurts” star added, “It probably won’t be the last, but next time I’ll be sure to clarify its origins first.” The quote DeBose shared was from a viral statement by the son of Marc Platt, producer of “Snow White.” Jonah Platt, who runs the “Being Jewish” podcast, blamed Zegler for the Disney remake’s poor box office performance.

In response to a comment, Platt criticized Zegler for “dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie.” DeBose had quoted the final line of the podcaster’s remarks in her since-deleted post.
