Michelle Obama recently revealed that Barack Obama wasn’t really “financially sound” when they first met. When asked if she would ever date someone who wasn’t “financially sound,” she was quick to note that her now-husband wasn’t, and she went ahead and married him. She clarified that his “I got your back” attitude was way more important to her than his high income.
Michelle Obama responds to dating men not ‘financially sound’: ‘I married one’
Michelle Obama didn’t hold back when asked if she would date someone who wasn’t “financially sound.” The former first lady jokingly replied to that question, noting, “Uh, I married one.” However, she stated that the decision came after realizing that she would rather have a partner who has her back than one who comes with a high income.
In the latest episode of the “IMO” podcast, Obama touched upon leaving her corporate job behind when she met Barack. She revealed that she could make that decision because the former president was “somebody who was like, ‘I got your back.'” He validated her life choices, highlighting how the risks she wanted to take weren’t high stakes, and he was ready to be by her side when she did so.
Michelle Obama also said that this was when she realized what she wanted in a partner. She quickly came to the realization that she “would rather have that in a partner than a higher income.” She wanted a relationship where they were ready to do hard things with her. In turn, she would be willing to do the same for them as well.
The attorney also clarified in the podcast that while she doesn’t stand for generalizing women, most aren’t “looking deep enough.” They focus on the “superficial” aspects when dating instead of “thinking broadly enough about what makes for a good partner.”
