Watch: Southern Charm Casting Tapes Revealed

In honor of Southern Charm’s decade tenure as a hit reality TV show on Bravo, executive producer Andy Cohen shared some of the original stars’ casting tapes at the Season 10 reunion.

Southern Charm creator and executive producer, Whitney Sudler-Smith, is included of course. As well as his mother Patricia Altschul. Two of the current gents involved – Shep Rose and Craig Conover – round out the rest of the included cast.

Certainly, it’s entertaining to go back in time and how much they’ve changed since then. Craig has gone in a completely different direction professionally. While Shep seems like the same person in his original casting tape. It’s time to take a trip down memory lane, when we were first introduced to this Charleston crowd.

Craig Conover and Shep Rose’s Southern Charm casting tapes revealed

Part 2 of the Southern Charm Season 10 reunion is set to air Thursday, April 3. And Bravo shared an exclusive clip of the current cast reacting to the casting tapes from 2013.

Andy introduced the footage. The Watch What Happens Live host said, “It is hard to believe that Southern Charm first graced our screens over 10 years ago. It’s such a transformation for this group of Charmers, some of whom were baby-faced, naïve, and even law students.”

When Craig applied to join Southern Charm, he was studying at the Charleston School of Law. Ultimately, he achieved his goal of becoming “wealthy” by starting up Sewing Down South.

“I mean, I love the law, but I wanna be an attorney to be wealthy, obviously,” Craig said in his casting video. “I love money. It’s awesome.” And in a prediction about his love life that didn’t age well, the reality TV star said, “I always say my wife’s not even born yet — but, as a joke.”

Craig was visibly cringing at the video, while Shep applauded it. “I don’t know that guy,” he reacted. Meanwhile, his buddy admitted, “I love that guy.”

Shep presented a more outdoorsy version of himself for his casting tape. He was filmed skeet shooting, chopping wood, and belting out a “yeehaw.” Currently, the new version of Shep is working on himself with the help of retreats in Costa Rica. Southern Charm fans will also be reminded that Shep had at least some professional plan in his past.

“I do commercial real estate, but I don’t really do sh*t,” he stated. “I do wanna have a family, I think, one day, but there’s a window, and it probably just is starting to open and it’ll probably close in 15 years or 10 years or 12 years.”

It’s interesting to see how Whitney Sudler-Smith marketed the Southern Charm show and cast

Fast forward 12 years and Shep’s self-proclaimed timeline has passed. His current co-stars were highly amused by that statement.

Southern Charm visionary Whitney described the friend group we’ve come to know and love as “fun” and “always pretty, fairly drunk.” Clearly trying to market the group at the time, Whitney described Shep as “f*cking brilliant.” Craig is the “funny” comedic relief and “one of the younger of the crew.”

The late Michael Kelcourse makes an appearance to serve Patricia a martini. Meanwhile, the Southern Charm matriarch joked that she’s “used to being filmed in [her] boudoir.”

“The gentlemen, the guys that all hang out together are good-looking, fun, accomplished, rich, and none of them are married,” she added.

What’s not to love? And it’s interesting to note how Southern Charm has really become a show about the guys. Austen Kroll joined the cast in 2017.
