I’ve always liked Alec Baldwin, going back to his days on Knots Landing. He’s had his problems over the years. He left a voicemail message for his young daughter, calling her a “rude, thoughtless little pig.” He went to court for accidentally shooting two people (killing director Halyna Hutchins) on the set of the movie Rust. Ultimately, the charges were dismissed.
Alec’s latest disaster seems to be the reality show starring him, Hilaria Baldwin, and their seven young children, The Baldwins. Reviewers are calling it “a colossal flop.” After watching the first couple of episodes, I’m not surprised. Hilaria never lets her husband speak, also she never stops talking.
The reality TV show, starring Alec and Hilaria, was once the subject of a bidding war among networks. But apparently, Season 1 of the show tanked so hard that TLC has already told the couple there won’t be a Season 2. In addition, insiders are hinting that the Baldwins’ marriage is in trouble.

“TLC plans to burn through the eight episodes that have been shot and be done with the Baldwins,” a source told RadarOnline. The show follows Alec, Hilaria, and their brood as the family faces the after effects of the fatal shooting, trial, and dismissal. Not only was the series dismissed by critics as a blatant cash grab but the Hutchins family was offended by Alec’s “shameless” claim of having PTSD.
Consequently, the show didn’t do well, drawing only 680,000 viewers for its first episode. Episode 2 fared even worse, attracting only 420,000. The dismal ratings are being interpreted as the end of Alec’s career. But insiders say the star blames his wife.
“Alec really, really needed this reality show to be a hit after all the bad press he’s received,” a source shared. The three-time Emmy winner hoped seeing him as a family man “would soften his image.”

Unfortunately, “it backfired in a big way,” the insider continued. “And he accused Hilaria of not putting her best foot forward in making the show successful … He crushed her feelings by telling her the public doesn’t like her any more than they do him.”
At one time, Hilaria pitched herself for The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, despite living in NYC. Even though RHOBH star Kyle Richards thought Mrs. Baldwin would be a “dream” addition to the show, nobody else did.
Additionally, Alec used to be a big star capable of carrying a blockbuster movie like The Hunt for Red October or Working Girl. But aside from doing voice work for the animated Boss Baby and the occasional stint on Saturday Night Live, his choices these days are limited.
“He sees his acting career going down the tubes,” the source concluded. “And those in his inner circle believe his marriage may go down right along with it. [Alec and Hilaria] are in big trouble. The tension between them is palpable.”
The Baldwins is now streaming on Discovery+.
