When Shamea Morton made her debut on the Real Housewives of Atlanta, I knew we had a new star on our hands. She proudly walked viewers through her enormous mansion while singing You Are My Sunshine to her newborn daughter. I was hooked from the start. Shamea always seemed down-to-earth and has known the cast for years. The mother of two never seemed to be about the drama but more about the kiki. Now, fans are really getting to know the newbie, and most of us like what we are seeing.

Shamea Morton is releasing new music

Her website boasts that “Being the center of attention is nothing new for Shamea Yvonne Morton. Whenever the Decatur, GA native enters a room, she manages to make a potent impression before speaking one word.” Real Housewives of Atlanta viewers are learning about Shamea’s passion for the arts. During a recent episode, she shared that growing up, she was a member of her church choir and was named “Little Miss Tiny Star.” Like most children, she transformed her living room into a stage and took dance lessons throughout her life, including Hip-Hop and Jazz.

Shamea noted she had been in multiple singing groups, including “Shamari Fears-Devoe (formerly of Blaque) as well as Keri Hilson, who was a member of Pretty Tony where they were signed to Grammy Award Winning music producer Anthony Dent.” She was also a part of the quartet Co-Ed. Now, Shamea is back in the studio recording new music for a new generation. I’ve taken a listen, and some of her tracks are real bops. Clearly, Shamea is still hoping for her big break to come along.

Shamea Morton is trying to set a good example for the women

Even though Shamea recently compared Angela Oakley’s nose to LaToya Jackson’s, she swears she is a girl’s girl. The two RHOA newbies found themselves in the midst of explosive arguments where the insults just became too funny not to laugh at. Angela started the name-calling when she first said “ShaMEANa.” It was then that Shamea couldn’t hold back as she began poking fun at Angela’s facial features. She noted that the real estate investor had a “’99 nose” and then said, “Of all the noses you could’ve picked, you chose that?” But Angela had her own set of comebacks as she compared Shamea to Public Enemy group member Flavor Flav.

Honestly, the altercation was pretty humorous, and neither woman seemed to be bothered by the insults. Later in the episode, Shamea shared with her sister that she wasn’t happy with how she acted because she is all about supporting women. Angela graciously invited her to the vault dinner as a sign of peace. Shamea accepted, making sure to bring olive oil as her olive branch of peace. As a viewer, I appreciated how she took responsibility for her actions and sincerely apologized.

Shamea Morton doesn’t need to rely on Porsha Williams for a role

For years, we’ve seen Shamea only in the capacity of Porsha Williams’ best friend. Every time Shamea would show up in a scene, it was to help boost Porsha in some way. But Season 16 is showing fans that Shamea can easily stand on her own two feet. I’d argue Shamea has always been a good friend to Porsha, but the newest episode didn’t show P giving her friend the same respect in return. Thankfully, Shamea isn’t letting her frenemy’s opinions get to her. Instead, she told Entertainment Tonight that she is “just excited to bring awareness to children with disabilities and special needs, but aside from that, for me personally, I’ve been a singer and actor for such a long time, and now I have this amazing platform. I can share my gifts, and I just hope I can change some lives in the process.”

As for her failing friendship with Porsha, the newbie shared, “This is new territory for both of us, so it’s just trying to find our way, but if it’s a strong and solid friendship, you can come out of it. That’s what happens sometimes in friendship, in families, and in relationships. There are highs and lows, but if there’s love at the center, you can persevere through it.” The Real Housewives of Atlanta has just gotten underway, but I am already looking forward to watching more of Shamea on the small screen.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta is available to stream on Peacock.
