Opinion: Why I’ll Watch Next Gen NYC, Despite Some Initial Cast Reservations

Bravo has finally given fans more information about their newest series, Next Gen NYC. And I have to be honest, I’m not exactly sure how I feel about it. And I don’t think I’m alone in that thought process. Dubbed the newest Zoomer show, which is just a fancy way of saying the cast is from Generation Z, I worry I won’t be able to relate to their lives. I also question if I will even want to. But deep down, I know I’ll end up watching it anyway.

Who are the Next Gen NYC cast members, and what is the Bravo show about?

It seems the sons and daughters of some of the most famous Bravo stars from the Real Housewives of New Jersey to the Real Housewives of Atlanta are finally getting their moment in the spotlight. According to the network Next Gen NYC, which kinda gives me Gallery Girls flashbacks (IYKYK), is about a group of friends all in their early 20s trying to navigate the Big Apple. The group consists of some familiar faces, including Ariana Biermann, Gia Giudice, Riley Burruss, and Brooks Marks.

The cast will also include Ava Dash, whose father is music mogul Damon Dash. There is model Emira D’Spain, Georgia McCan, and crypto trader Charlie Zakkour. Ariana’s long-time boyfriend, Hudson McLeroy, will also appear in the series, along with Shai Fruchter. The new show will make its mark on June 3. There have also been sightings of the famous mothers, so fans can be sure the ladies will also make a few cameos to help their children. However, it seems many of the kids are looking to step out of their mothers’ shadows. So, it will be a fun power dynamic to watch.

Next Gen NYC’s familiar cast gives me some reservations

Okay, I’m trying to be positive. But I am a writer, which means I am passionate about specific things, and Next Gen NYC is one of them. I have watched all of the Real Housewives franchises since their inception, so I have also seen the children grow up in real-time. I am worried about Gia Giudice as a cast member. The last couple of years on the Real Housewives of New Jersey showed her attitude turning abrasive and, at times, mean. Then there is Ariana, who I used to love on RHOA. But she embraced the world of influencing. And somewhere along the line and turned into a mini-me of Kim. Honestly, I can’t tell those two apart at times.

I find it hard to believe that any of these cast members struggled through trials and tribulations. Most, if not all, were born with a silver spoon in their mouths. Brooks was able to take a year off from school to work on his clothing line, which doesn’t seem feasible for most students with dreams. Ava has grown up around the biggest names in the music industry, so I can’t help but wonder if doors were already opening for her due to her connections. My main gripe is that I worry the new series might not be relatable to the average viewer. But I’m hoping Next Gen NYC proves me wrong.

Bravo’s Next Gen NYC could be a great addition

But on the flip side, Next Gen NYC could be a massive hit. Maybe it is time for a new generation to take over Bravo. As loyal fans, change is hard since most of us have watched these shows and these women for years. But change, even though scary, can be really good and refreshing. Maybe the touch of youth will help bring around newer shows that can quickly become fan favorites.

I will say I am excited to catch up with Riley Burruss. I always loved seeing her on the Real Housewives of Atlanta. She was down-to-earth and has stayed relatively quiet since going to college in New York. It will be interesting to get a sneak peek inside Manhattan’s selective circles. We all know money talks, and thankfully, these kids aren’t hurting. The trailer gives me hope that viewers will get to see a genuine group of friends bonding over life experiences. As Georgia notes in the trailer, “This friend group is honestly a beautiful, hot mess.”

Next Gen NYC premieres June 3 on Bravo.
