Why It’s Okay To Empathize With RHOBH’s Erika Jayne

There is no doubt that Erika Jayne has had a rough few years. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star has been ousted from her Pasadena mansion, betrayed by her estranged husband, kicked off Broadway due to a pandemic, and fought for her life in the court of public opinion. Reality TV star or not, a mere mortal can only take so much. So, I often find myself empathizing with the Pretty Mess singer. And that’s okay. It doesn’t make me or anyone else a bad person for showing some compassion. Here’s why.

Erika Jayne’s friend Teddi Mellencamp is going through a cancer battle

Sadly, almost everyone who will read this article has been affected by cancer in one way or another. Maybe you’re the survivor, or maybe you’ve lost someone to the disease. Currently, Erika is grappling with her close friend, Teddi Mellencamp’s diagnosis. The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star recently revealed to fans she was fighting brain cancer, and shortly after, she shared that the doctors had found four more tumors. The news is horrifying for everyone: the patient, the family, and the friends.

Erika’s close friend and lawyer Jim Wilkes gave an update on the star. He shared via The U.S. Sun, “Erika is dealing with a lot of stress. She’s got a close friend that she’s done the internet podcast with who’s got an incredibly difficult health issue … That’s been very difficult for Erika.” Her levels of stress and worrying for her friend are nothing to joke about. Sadly, I understand the feeling in the pit of your stomach and can’t help but feel for Erika during this particular time.

Erika Jayne’s net worth will take a hit thanks to multiple lawsuits

While worrying about her friend, Erika has also been hit with multiple lawsuits. The most recent debacle was about the 53-year-old accusing Marco Marco, a costume business, of allegedly illegally overcharging her American Express card for up to $900,000. However, Christopher Psaila, who is a partner with Marco Morante, sued Erika over her claim and “accused her of a conspiracy to try and win back money she was never wrongly charged for in the first place.” To make matters worse, Jim missed a very important appointment. He later told the outlet, “My staff made a mistake. I am in the process of winding down my practice to focus on fewer cases. All I’m going to say now is, ‘Your honor, I apologize.’ I’m going to file a new motion and go from there.”

Erika is also being sued by Tom Girardi’s trustee, Elissa Miller, for $24 million. The trustee has alleged that Erika knew that Tom’s law firm, Girardi Keese, was secretly paying her expenses between 2007 and 2020. A judge has recently been assigned to the case. The trial date will be set in the District Court in California.

Erika Jayne is a victim too, thanks to husband, Tom Girardi

Even though Erika often liked to pretend that she and Tom had a good marriage, that wasn’t always the case. In 2021, a year after she had filed for divorce, she shocked viewers when she revealed Tom wasn’t always the kindest to her. Fans had watched Tom shut down Erika on more than one occasion. But it was surprising for her to confirm the personality trait. Erika told Sutton Stracke, “Based on Tom’s two previous divorces, he’s a fighting mother f*cker until the end. If I got a Bentley out of this divorce, I’d be thrilled.”

After noting that Tom was very “possessive,” Erika added, “I’m sure he’s very mad at me. I know who Tom is. I know how mean and overly dismissive Tom is,” Erika said in a confessional “I saw it for 22 years.” The pain went deeper for Erika as she spoke out about his lack of support. She shared, “Your wife that you have supported and funded becomes a lead on Broadway, and you don’t come to the show? And then I had to go out there and defend it. Now you tell me if I feel loved.” After all that, Erika still persists. And there is some part of me that finds solace in the fact that she keeps moving forward. She is a fighter, if nothing else.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is available to stream on Peacock.
