I’m really close to petitioning Bravo for Wihan du Toit to have to walk the plank. The Below Deck Down Under bosun has been nothing but a thorn in the side of the crew of the Katina. Wihan is way too girl crazy and refuses to take accountability for his crew or his own actions. Sadly, he hasn’t been able to teach skills to his deck team, leaving them in the dark. The only lesson he’s taught everyone is how not to act on a motor yacht. It has me longing for the days of João Franco.
Could João Franco replace Wihan du Toit on Below Deck Down Under?
I get the feeling that Captain Jason Chambers is looking for a replacement for Wihan. And after his redemption arc last season, João would be the perfect guy for the job. He definitely had a questionable first season, when he called Aesha Scott some not-so-kind names, it felt like João watched himself and then was like, “Not a good look,” and came back to prove he could do better. After first leaving the series, João worked on his studies and built a 140-foot yacht, which he captains. He also recently earned his master’s license. The bosun humbled himself and even apologized to Aseha upon his return.
So while João is all about growing strong from his past mistakes, Wihan refuses to admit he makes any. In fact, he often runs to Captain Jason to try and tattle on his crewmates. Thankfully, our hunk of a captain sees right through him. And while Jason is more than happy to give someone a second chance, Wihan is wearing out his welcome.
Wihan du Toit will likely be fired on Below Deck Down Under
As I watched the latest episode of Below Deck Down Under, I was left feeling icky. Wihan has been jumping from girl to girl in hopes of cuddling someone at night. Currently, he has moved on to Adair Werley. But prior to their date he kissed and grabbed Tzarina Mace-Ralph’s butt. He has also worked hard to divide his deck team against Harry van Vliet who is the shining star of the crew. The troubled bosun is also starting to cause fights among his crew.
The man is giving me Luke Jones vibes. A recent episode showed a clear case of mistaken identity on Alesia Harris, who was intoxicated. She went into the cabin to cuddle with Johnny Arvanitis but accidentally thought Wihan was the deckhand. Instead of stopping her from climbing into bed, he wrapped his arms around her and cuddled her. This again raised questions about consent in the series. The episode immediately made me think of Margot Sisson. The fact that Wihan thought nothing of what he was doing is terrifying, and he shouldn’t be allowed to spend one more night on the boat as he is a clear predator.
Wihan du Toit’s deckhand Johnny Arvanitis was fired on Below Deck Down Under Season 3 Episode 11
In the sneak peek of Below Deck Down Under Episode 11, Johnny has snapped after finding Wihan cuddling his crush. Just hours before, Johnny had shared that he was nervous that if given the chance, Wihan would go over Alesia too. Johnny has been by Wihan’s side the entire season, so it is understandable why the Greek native was so upset. However, his outburst awoke Captain Jason, which is never good. For everyone’s safety, Johnny was put into a hotel.
Wihan is heard telling Alesia that Johnny is “crazy,” and that just doesn’t seem fair since he was the spark that lit the entire outburst. As day breaks, Johnny has calmed down, but the anxiety from the previous night persists. Sadly, Jason had to make the call for the safety of the vessel, and that was to let Johnny go. The deckhand understood and seemed to agree that the boat wasn’t the place for him. All fans can hope is that Wihan isn’t too far behind him since he has been the center of all the drama.
Below Deck Down Under is available to stream on Peacock.
