SNL Hasn’t Apologized to Aimee Lou Wood After ‘White Lotus’ Skit — Report

Earlier this week, Aimee Lou Wood slammed a “Saturday Night Live” skit parodying “The White Lotus” and impersonating her character in a “mean and unfunny” way, but she has yet to receive a formal apology. The SNL sketch had imagined President Donald Trump and his team staying at the fictional hotel using characters from the drama’s third season. Sarah Sherman played Wood’s character, Chelsea, using exaggerated prosthetic teeth and a fake accent, and it didn’t sit well with the actor.

Wood criticized the skit in a series of Instagram Stories, claiming she would have been okay with being made fun of if it was “clever and in good spirits.” In follow-up stories, the star shared she received thousands of messages of support and “apologies from SNL.” However, TMZ just learned that the sketch comedy show hasn’t formally apologized to her, despite her claims.

SNL reportedly hasn’t formally apologized to Aimee Lou Wood despite the actor’s claims

Sources with direct knowledge of the situation told TMZ that SNL has yet to issue a formal apology to Aimee Lou Wood after receiving backlash for their “White Lotus” skit. The report mentioned that Wood possibly spoke to someone from the sketch comedy show who might have apologized to her. But it wasn’t official or formal. The sources further noted that SNL “wouldn’t feel compelled” to be apologetic for its impersonification of Wood’s character, as making fun of people’s appearance is the show’s premise.

Wood previously called out the sketch comedy show’s sketch for being “mean and unfunny.” Comedian Sarah Sherman represented her character, Chelsea, sporting a set of exaggerated prosthetic teeth. “I did find the ‘SNL’ thing mean and unfunny,” the British star wrote before calling it a “shame” and explaining what a “great time” she had “watching it a couple of weeks ago.” She then agreed that it was okay to take a “piss” at her because “that’s what the show is about” but urged to find “a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way” to do so.

After this, Aimee Lou Wood shared that SNL sent her an apology for the skit. She even posted a snap on her stories showing a bouquet from Sherman. There have been other reports since then, including claims that the BAFTA winner broke down in public while out with her friend, actor Ralph Davis, amid the skit drama. The New York Post reported that she later clarified with more stories that her breakdown was “about something completely unrelated.”
