The South African singer and songwriter took the stage during the second weekend of the star-studded music festival. Although Tyla serenaded the audience, it was her choice of outfit that had the internet talking. However, she was quick to shut down the speculations that her performance look was inspired by Spears.

Tyla took to X (formerly Twitter) and addressed the comparisons of her performance outfit at Coachella 2025 with Britney Spears. In response to a now-deleted post, the 23-year-old singer wrote, “Love her but I just thought the outfit was fly…no inspo.” Tyla ignited the speculations after she wore a green balconette bra during the second weekend of the music festival. The “Water” hitmaker’s look included a pair of unbuttoned, unzipped shorts. The piece was also adorned with beaded and green fringes, as well as safety pins.
According to netizens, the outfit looked similar to what Spears wore during her “I’m a Slave 4 U” performance at the 2001 MTV VMAs. She donned a draped cutout green bra top, which was adorned with pink jewels at the center and on the spaghetti straps. Spears paired the look with tiny shorts, featuring a butterfly motif and a series of charms hanging on the waistline. The look included a long, flowy blue-green fabric cascading down her legs. Moreover, she famously carried a huge python during the iconic performance.
