Dancer Kelcey Wetterberg withdrew from the world of cheer at the end of Season 1 of America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. She was the team captain and a five-year DCC veteran who spent her days off the fields working as a pediatric nurse. Aiding in her Season 1 storyline, her boyfriend, Nate Crnkovich, proposed to her during filming, to which Kelcey happily answered yes. Now, Kelsey is merrily writing her second chapter of life in Dallas, Texas.
Thankfully for her fans, this highly acclaimed squad also remains a part of her current life story, just in a different manner, now that Kelsey is no longer an active cheerleader. As for her career as a nurse, this narrative is also still at play. So, what happened to Kelsey on this team, and how does she spend her free time now that tryouts and training camps are a thing of the past?
Why did Kelcey Wetterberg leave DCC?

When DCC Season 1 wrapped, Kelsey chose to retire. As we watched, Kelsey made the tough decision to hang up her uniform on the rack designated for cheerleaders who would not be returning to tryouts during the following season. On average, cheerleaders on this squad typically stay with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders for three to five seasons. As for Kelcey, she lasted for five, cheering from 2019 to 2024.
Kelcey decided to retire so that she could better focus on her career as a pediatric nurse. For five years, Kelcey had to balance her nursing career with her DCC commitments, and both gigs were time-consuming. Plus, have you seen the Thunderstruck dance? I am in awe of Kelcey, as the energy levels she needed to maintain her life were massive.
Additionally, her decision to retire from the DCC squad also allowed Kelcey a chance to spend more time with her now-husband, Nate. Nate relocated to Dallas to be at her side during Season 1 of America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Here, Kelcey explained that Nate had chosen love over his residence in Los Angeles, which is why he moved. As Kelcey explained, Nate made a huge sacrifice for their relationship, so now it was her turn to do the same in the form of her retirement.
Nate, a fellow registered nurse who dabbles in acting while running a side hustle, Green Light IV, a mobile IV service in Dallas, likely appreciated her gesture. Something tells me that these two understand how to compromise, which will help their marriage thrive in the years to come.
What is Kelcey Wetterberg doing now?

Thankfully, when Kelsey resigned, her decision did not mean that she was walking away from the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Instead, this squad remains a big part of her current story, as Kelcey is now a DCC All-Star. This title means that Kelcey continues to engage with the DCC community as an alum. She also fills in as needed during speaking events while occasionally popping into rehearsals to lend a hand.
After retiring from the DCC squad, Kelcey and Nate tied the knot. Their two-day celebration took place in Omaha last December, followed by a New Year’s Eve reception with 300 guests. Naturally, Kelcey weaved the DCC into their festivities using Thunderstruck, which Kelcey danced along to with her fellow DCC alums. Following their ceremony, they returned to Dallas, where they bought their first house.
The following March, Kelcey underwent surgery on her ankle, which she shared with her followers. During her recovery, Kelcey went online to explain that she had snapped her ankle while walking her dogs. Thankfully, the worst is now behind Kelcey. She has returned to the gym, enjoying her newly regained mobility.
Kelcey is now back in her nursing career. Additionally, she is also using her platform to create sponsored posts on TikTok and Instagram. During Season 1 of America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, her following grew considerably. She now has nearly half a million followers on Instagram and over 200,000 on TikTok.
America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders is streaming on Netflix.
