The beauty of live TV is that things can and will go wrong, and Jeff Probst found himself in a pretty big blunder during last night’s Survivor 50 live reunion.
Jeff got ahead of himself and accidentally revealed Rizo Velovic as the final member of the jury before his elimination had even aired, effectively spoiling the fact that he wouldn’t win the upcoming fire-making challenge.
Jeff tried to play it off, but there was no taking it back. Rizo’s elimination was spoiled, and audience members at the taping were quick to detail the chaos that ensued during the commercial break.
The Survivor host spoke to the live reunion audience
A boots-on-the-ground report from the Survivor 50 live reunion revealed Jeff’s very human reaction to screwing up Rizo’s elimination. At first, he still seemed a little confused about what had happened. He turned to the audience, who helped fill him in.
“So I came out too soon?” Jeff asked. “That’s pretty f*cked up.”
It is pretty f*cked up, but it’s also kind of iconic. What better way to end a landmark season than with a franchise first? Fans in the room seemed equal parts stunned and delighted by the messy moment, and one audience member shared how some of the Survivor legends in the crowd reacted.
“I was in the audience sitting right next to Parvati and she grabbed Michelle and said, ‘Oh my God!’ The crowd was speechless and the most quiet of the [whole] night with the confusion. It was awesome,” one audience member added.
We all knew Survivor 50 would be one for the books, but an accidental spoiler from Jeff himself? That was not on anyone’s radar, but we’re so thankful they gave the fans one last thing to fawn over before turning the page on this wild chapter. Now, we brace ourselves for Survivor 51.
Survivor is streaming on Paramount+.
