Report: Is Kim Kardashian’s “Selfish” Book A Flop?

Kim Kardashian signs Selfish book

Uhhhh… is anyone surprised by reports that Kim Kardashian‘s book of selfies, aptly entitled Selfish is a flop?

Kim has been promoting the book heavily via interviews and social media where she has 41 million followers, but according to reps for the publishing house that’s not translating to sales for the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star. Is it because reading Kim’s twitter feed is mind-numbing enough?

Is it that people don’t wan to buy the cow when they get the milk for free? Meaning, Kim has already pummeled us via instagram and twitter with nonstop selfies and most of the images from her book are regurgitated from her self-obsessed social media feed, so why pay good money for what’s already out there and readily available? Right?

Reps for Neilsen Bookscan tell Radar Online that Selfish, released in May, has to date sold only 32,000 copies! Breaking down the numbers further that means just 0.8% of Kim’s IG fans were will to put more money in Kim’s atrociously-clad designer pockets.

The bad news goes deeper: despite being listed on Amazon as a “best seller” (which has nothing to do with actual consumer purchases and everything to do with how many copies retailers purchased in anticipation of sales) the book is ranked only #2,150 in Books – and is slipping daily.

Worse, the book has been a “critical flop,” being panned by reviewers both of the professional and online reader variety – and even celebrities! The halfhearted reviews from such sources as Us Weekly reveal that the book has been treated with condescension and is considered merely a joke by credible reviewers (i.e. NYT).

As a comparison books by other reality stars, such as Holly Madison‘s Down The Rabbit Hole (which I cannot wait to read!) is ranked #205 on Amazon and rated one of the best books of 2015 in the Memoirs category.

It’s fair to say Kim has gotten wind that sales are dismal and is in effect distancing herself from the book, because a quick peak at her IG and Twitter reveals she hasn’t been talking about the book or promoting it as of late. And despite her continuing to take an abundance of selfies, she’s no longer even using the #SelfishBook alongside of them. (She does still have a link to the book on her instagram).

So there you have it: ain’t nobody interested in paying to see Kim’s nekkid selfies. Perhaps there is too much of a good thing where self-promotion is concerned?
