If one could pinpoint the appeal of Jersey Shore–besides the public’s limitless thirst for footage of drunk folks–it may be the unabashed, unashamed way that its cast members live their lives. Nowhere does this become more apparent than in this fantastic interview of Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi and Jennifer ‘Jwoww’ Farley. While most reality stars take us through a tame, sanitized, media-trained version of events, these two hold nothing back.
At one point, Snooki admits to being bisexual, which is not a huge surprise considering she got very close to roommate Deena in the last season of the show. But rather than be coy, Snooki is out and proud: “I would consider myself bi. I’ve done stuff with girls before. But I would never be with a girl because I like… penis. But I’ve experimented,” says Snooki to the Huffington Post.
What’s a bit more surprising is that both girls suspect that their roommate Mike ‘The Situation’ may be gay. JWoww says, “I can’t confirm or deny with Mike, but if he was, it would all make sense.”
The rest of the interview is a serious delight. Both women admit to having Google Alerts set on their names and enjoy their constant press attention, even if much of it is false and/or negative. Snooki says, “I like it when my name is in the news,” and both admit to having a “thick skin.” Jwoww attributes this to the very harsh reaction they received when the show first aired, stating “..when the show first came out [the press] was so negative. So we had to learn how to deal with it right from the jump. People love to hate us.”
It sounds like the tough women of Jersey Shore could give some overly sensitive housewives a few lessons in how to deal with being in the spotlight. However, they do claim they are victims of bullying (whether or not it systematic, is anyone’s guess). Snooki calls herself “[probably] the top celebrity that is bullied today.” She goes on, “I’m just different and everyone hates me for it.” JWoww even claims that they’ve impacted government policy: “What we do on the show — people say we’re alcoholics. We get discriminated against for drinking. And we’re tan so now we’ve caused these tanning taxes and we’re getting a bad rap for tanning.”
Like the recent interview with roommate Sammi Sweetheart, Snooki and JWoww also believe that the cast’s intelligence is underestimated due to their antics and wardrobe choices. JWoww says: “It’s like you don’t know me to judge me. We’re sorry we’re not walking on the shore with three-piece business suits or evening gowns.” I suppose all those clips of the cast discussing economic policy and the upcoming 2012 presidential election are being left on the cutting room floor!
As for the ladies’ future career aspirations, they have both set the bar pretty high. JWoww wants to be like Angelina Jolie and travel the world, while Snooki wants to follow in the steps of Jessica Simpson and her business success:
JWoww: Angelina Jolie. Not the acting — but I’m obsessed with her. I know that she gives half her paycheck to charities but she’s also knee-deep into it. She wants to make a difference. And I think that’s what separates her from a lot of celebrities who just do it all for a write off. She’s just so passionate about it. And I want to be passionate like that when it comes to animals and children. I’ve never experienced what she’s experienced and I keep hearing that if you go to a third world country it’ll change your life. And that’s what I want.
Snooki: I would say Jessica Simpson in terms of her business and her brand. She’s a genius and she’s a business woman and that’s what I want to be. I admire her a lot.
As for the next ten years, they have pretty traditional goals and want a husband and children. But, both would appear to still want to be on our televisions. JWoww is cautious, saying “I hope reality TV is still around in 10 years,” while Snooki is far more confident in her belief that we are stuck with her forever: “It will be. And if it’s not, I’ll just tape myself and put myself on YouTube.”
