Lisa Vanderpump Explains Why She Never Changed Her Last Name When She Got Married

Just imagine an alternate reality where Bravo’s hit show, Vanderpump Rules, was named Todd Rules instead. And all other Vanderpump places and products were now named Todd Dogs, Todd Cocktail Garden, Todd Rosé, and Todd Vodka. Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, does it?

Well, that alternate reality might have been an actual reality if Lisa Vanderpump had decided to take Ken Todd’s last name when they married back in 1982. So, why did Lisa decide not to take Ken’s last name?

In an interview with Bravo’s The Daily Dish, Lisa explained why she decided to keep her maiden name. She said, “I felt that Vanderpump was a much nicer name than Todd.” I don’t think you’ll get any arguments there! Lisa continued, “Ken had already been married before…and also his ex-wife hadn’t changed her name, so she was still Todd.”

Lisa said she told Ken, “You’re not going to go around the world just making Mrs.Todd’s out of people, so I will stay a Vanderpump.” Ok, I can totally picture a young Lisa schooling Ken with those exact words. She added, “I never actually changed my name. I didn’t change my passport. I didn’t change anything. So I was always Lisa Vanderpump.”

Lisa also discussed how supportive Ken has been as her career evolved during the course of their marriage. From the very beginning, he always valued her input on business decisions. Now that she is in the spotlight and the business is focused on her, he is still in her corner.

She said, “You gotta be quite secure as a man, I mean sometimes he’s called Mr.Vanderpump.” It’s crazy to think about, but the decision to keep her last name more than likely helped her career and brand some thirty years later. If anyone should change their last name it should be Ken, it seems only fitting.
