Is it possible James Kennedy has won the battle over the bottle? It’s looking that way for the Vanderpump Rules DJ. Poor James had a time last season. He suffered from mommy multiple family issues and the wrath of Tequila Katie Maloney most of the cast. Lala Kent hated everybody but especially James. Former stalker girlfriend Kristen Doute was obsessed determined to ruin him. And as a final twist of the knife, Lisa Vanderpump caved in fired James when he drunkenly fat-shamed Katie and he lost his regular gig at SUR.

With the exception of live-in love Raquel Leviss and his dog, it seemed James had a target on his back. But why tho? If nothing else, James often provided commentary that was similar to what the viewers were thinking. Yes, James had a relationship with alcohol, but to my recollection, no one in the Pump Rules cast could pass a morality test. After an explosive reunion, where James almost came to blows with Jax Taylor, it seems he has turned a corner. James has been working on repairing shattered friendships and staying sober. Our second favorite Brit showed up at BravoCon and talked about his time on the wagon.

James isn’t the only one trying to stay away from Lady Alcohol. His old buddy Lala has given up drinking as well. These two weren’t exactly happy drunks. The buzz of pasta alcohol unleashed Lala’s inner gangster and turned James into a truth-teller real asshole. Maybe watching the effects of vodka eating away at their brains on television helped both Lala and James decide to give up the vice.

People caught up with James at BravoCon and he said, “I don’t drink anymore. I’m five months sober now. It’s been incredible.” Good on James! I’ll admit, I like the guy. There was not a lot of enjoyment watching him getting kicked like a dog for an entire season. James can now say his dependence on alcohol was an enormous burden. “I never realized how much alcohol was slowing me down and making me procrastinate in big life things that I could be pursuing now,” he said.

Without the anchor of drunkenness, James is able to pursue new opportunities within his music career. He shared, “My career is getting even bigger and my deejaying is really taking off so I’m taking it seriously. I’m going to take over!” Pro-tip, stay away from any Good As Gold remixes. Sorry, not sorry, Scheana Marie.

James then details viewers will see his JOURNEY to self-restraint on Pump Rules. “I’m dealing with all the anxiety and pre-show jitters without drowning myself in vodka.” More for everyone else! James also mentioned his recovery techniques. “You’ll see this season what I do to actually get over alcohol, it was a process for sure. I take it day by day and keep it gangsta.” Oi, he keeps it gangsta, Mate! At least we know the omission of his blood type being Grey Goose hasn’t put a dim on his personality.

Vanderpump Rules is coming back in January. We’ll have big weddings. Couples moving into large homes. People choosing life over binge drinking. And finally, fixing tumultuous relationships. Wait, what is this show called again? In any case, congrats James!
