It was a little surprising to see Elyse Slaine do a confessional interview during the latest episode of Real Housewives of New York. Who even knew she was a cast member? We got no introduction to meeting her. Zero backstory. Truthfully, she just seemed like Ramona Singer’s level-headed plus one.
So, what happened? Were she and Leah McSweeney fighting for that full-time spot on the show? Apparently, not. According to Elyse she was never even supposed to be on the show. So, no, she did not get demoted. Instead, she claims that production just kept asking for more Elyse. Let’s let her explain the situation herself.
In response to tweets asking why she got a confessional interview, Elyse wrote, “Barbara [Kavovit] was suppose to have an Apple, but it didn’t work out, so she was made ‘a friend.’ I spontaneously came on for one scene in the first episode with Ramona… just a playful night out. They kept inviting me back, so I showed up, and late in the season, signed on as a friend.” Interesting. And I still want to know what really happened with Barbara losing that apple.

Getting back to the casting logistics, Elyse shared, “I didn’t film enough to have a storyline; and I was not interested in getting in the middle of the fighting. But they clearly thought I was interesting enough to keep inviting me back. You are actually pretty rude, as you know nothing about me. Are you interesting?”
In another tweet, Elyse wrote, “I spontaneously got involved. I never auditioned. I don’t think either side knew how often I would film.”

In this series of shade-filled tweets and clarification, Elyse made a nice revelation, writing, “They are showing my confessionals, and I’m getting paid. And I am donating 100% of what I make to animal rescue. So all of the chaos will result in something good and pure.”
