2021 has been quite a chaotic year, but can you imagine a worse end-of-the-year surprise than a giant boulder coming and crashing down onto your car? It sounds like something out of a Final Destination movie, but unfortunately, this was the horrifying reality for former rapper and reality TV legend Flavor Flav, who is thankful to be alive after surviving a near-death experience this past week.
According to TMZ, the 62-year-old rapper and reality TV legend was driving his white Audi A5 from Las Vegas to Los Angeles when rain caused a boulder to come tumbling down a cliff in La Tuna Canyon. The boulder hit the side of his car, and the collision caused him to lose control of his vehicle. However, he regained control and pulled over the side of the road, where AAA came to check on him. Thankfully, Flav was physically unharmed, just “emotionally shaken,” as his rep told Page Six. However, his car was a different story. It was completely totaled.
Although his Audi didn’t survive the run-in with the boulder, Flavor Flav was thankful to be alive after the frightening ordeal. “God is good,” he told TMZ, adding that he “came very close to death but is super grateful to be alive.” On Instagram, he echoed that sentiment of thankfulness. In a caption, he wrote, “Your boy FLAV is still shaken up but very glad to still be here.” “God wazn’t ready for me to join him yet,” he continued.
Outside of surviving a near-death experience, Flav has had a lot to celebrate this year. Of course, everyone knows about his history of substance abuse and his complicated relationship with the law over the years, but he celebrated a year of sobriety this year. At the time of his 1st sobriety anniversary, he shared a side-by-side photo on Instagram showcasing his physical transformation since taking on a sober lifestyle.
“1 year up,” he wrote in the caption. “Lotz more to go … next year I pray my whole family will be walkin the same path I am … #sobriety #alcoholfree #1yearsober #dontbelievethehype.”
