Val Chmerkovskiy Dancing With the Stars

Cheer Star Monica Aldama Isn’t Surprised That Val Chmerkovskiy Is Contemplating Leaving Dancing With The Stars; Says “He’s An Entrepreneur” And “Has A Lot Of Different Ideas”

Season 30 of Dancing with the Stars was certainly a memorable one. It featured the first same-sex partners in the history of DWTS. Pop star JoJo Siwa was partnered with pro Jenna Johnson. They killed every routine.

And what would DWTS be without a healthy dash of controversy? Influencer Olivia Jade was cast on Season 30, and there was an instant backlash. Olivia’s parents, designer Mossimo Giannulli and actress Lori Loughlin, served time in jail for their role in the college admissions bribery scandal.

Then there were rumors that Olivia was a little bit too close to her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy. A user posted a shady video on TikTok that made reference to a DWTS contestant hooking up with their married pro dancer. Val married fellow pro Jenna on April 13, 2019, in Rancho Palo Verdes, California.

Olivia denied the extracurricular romance rumors in her own TikTok video, stating, “I’m just going to be super blunt and straight up, and just say that Val and I are not hooking up.” Jenna seemed unbothered by the gossip.

Olivia and Val were eliminated just short of the semi-finals. While co-hosting Entertainment Tonight with Olivia on November 9, 2021, Val reflected on his future on DWTS. “I’ve always been very clear about coming back on the show. I love the show. I love being on it,” Val stated. “I am so grateful for the opportunity. Is this my last season? Probably. Probably.”

Please say it isn’t so, Val! “I have no regrets about my tenure on the show. I have no regrets about the season,” the dance pro remarked. “I couldn’t have asked for a better partner [Olivia Jade] to end it with.”

Val told Page Six and other reporters via Zoom on November 8, 2021 that he wasn’t sure about his future on DWTS. “I don’t know. That’s a long time from now,” Val commented.

Monica Aldama, the star of the Cheer docuseries on Netflix, told US Weekly that she wasn’t shocked that her former DWTS partner, Val, might leave the show. “I’m definitely grateful that I had the opportunity to work with him,” Monica stated. “I think we both taught each other a lot. I’m not surprised at hearing that just because I know he’s kind of an entrepreneur himself and he has a lot of different ideas.”

Monica competed on Season 29 of DWTS where she and Val placed 10th. She said that being on the show was the best experience to come out of her success on Cheer. “As hard as Dancing with the Stars was, I would do it all again in a heartbeat. I’ve been a huge fan since the very first season it came out,” Monica shared. “I absolutely love that show. Everybody was so wonderful.”

And Monica is clearly proud of  her friend, Val. Monica explained, “He really is very talented. He’s very creative, not just in dance, but he’s just very artistic and very creative.” She continued, “He could really honestly do so many different things. I don’t have a clue what his plan is, but he does own a lot of dance schools around the country.”

Val and Monica are still close and try and see each other whenever Val is in Texas. “My husband and I went — this summer, he did a tour with his brother Maks [Chmerkovskiy], and they came through Austin. So, we bought tickets and went down there to support him,” Monica said. “We went backstage and hung out with him for a little bit. I would support him in anything he does.”

Monica shared that Val even took the time to meet her Navarro College cheerleaders. “He came in March — he was in Texas because he owns a lot of dance schools — and he drove down to Corsicana and met the team.”

In 2015, Val took home the mirror ball with partner Rumer Willis. He won again in 2016 with Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez.

I am hoping that Val will be in the ballroom, ready to cha-cha when, and if, the series returns.
