In the wake of the release of Britney Spears’ new memoir, many revelations and memories are coming about the pop star and the experiences many have had with her over the years, including the time in which she was being held under a conservatorship.
One of the latest celebrities to talk about his experience with Britney is Bravo star Andy Cohen, who chatted with SiriusXM about his experience interviewing Britney Spears during her conservatorship and how the whole experience just didn’t sit well with him.
Weird and creepy
“I interviewed her for an album release party, I think for Glory,” Andy recalled. He mentioned that her manager at the time, Larry Rudolph, thought it would be a good way for him to get to know Britney and then maybe get her on Watch What Happens Live.
He recalled being told that Britney didn’t like doing talk shows where she didn’t know the host. So, this would be an excellent time to build a relationship with her if he ever hoped to get her on the show.
Andy flew out to meet her at her album listening party, an event not shown on television, to quickly chat with her and hopefully build some rapport. He recalled that his friends Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey from The Wow Report gave him a bit of a heads-up on what to expect.
“They said, ‘There’s this woman who is at Britney’s side at all times, and she basically tells her what to do and where to go, and it’s really creepy.’”
Even though Andy knew this ahead of time, he was still pretty freaked out when he saw it in-person. “When I got there, this woman was there, and it was like Britney was her captive. She was her captor.”
He added that Britney even mentioned this woman by name in her new book. He, however, didn’t want to, as he didn’t wanna be sued. Andy’s a smart man. He reiterated, though, how creepy it was.
All for show
“It was really creepy,” he explained. “This woman would whisper in her ear before everything and was sitting up on stage with me, Britney, and will.i.am, and she’d come up and say something in her ear, and Britney would agree and nod.”
Andy noted that it felt like nothing was real, and it was all for show. He remembered that when they brought him to meet Britney, a birthday cake was brought into the room. People were saying “Happy birthday” and “Surprise!” to her, and she said, “It’s not my birthday. My birthday was last month.”
When Andy asked her what was going on, she didn’t reply directly. But, he felt like it was all for show and just for the cameras. “It was so weird,” he concluded.
Andy’s is just one of many stories people are sharing about Britney. Her memoir, The Woman In Me, is available now.
