Erika Jayne is doing everything in her power to forge a new identity for herself, as she looks ahead to a new chapter. Whether that’s something audiences are willing to give her hasn’t yet been determined.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Erika revealed she hadn’t even watched the last two seasons of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, citing it was just too painful.
In an objective sense, Erika has been through quite a lot over the past couple of years. Anyone would want to move on from an estranged relationship with Tom Girardi. And with legal battles on the horizon for Erika, the best thing she can do is try to be optimistic.
The fans who watched the RHOBH Season 13 premiere already got a hint about how Erika was hoping to change for the better. Her therapy session made it clear she wanted to try and develop more empathy. But that’s just the start of her journey.
Erika is “not a cornered animal anymore”
In Erika’s interview, she discussed how things were going to change on a personal level. “It’s a new chapter for me. I’m in a different head space. So, I just wasn’t walking in there ready to have a whole lot of conflict. It’s just not where I’m at. I really want to move on, rebuild, and put the past behind me.”
She also had some choice words towards those who criticized her demeanor. “It’s so funny when people say, ‘Erika, you’re so icy cold, you’re so removed,’ when in reality, I’m one of the most sensitive people … I started out trying to tell my story in a quiet, civilized way but I was not heard and was continuously pressured and pressured until I started yelling.”
Erika said she felt stronger this season: “I am not a cornered animal anymore, and that is something that people don’t understand.” She noted how therapy helped on that front. She added, “For me, I do not want to be defined by a divorce and allegations. I fought very hard to be myself, and still have something for myself, and to pick up and go forward.”
