Now that the writers’ and actors’ strikes are behind us, Hollywood can get back to business as usual. Of course, that business includes celebrating itself with the awards shows and galas we’ve been missing.
On November 16, Variety’s Power of Women gala honored trailblazing women doing their best to change the world. One of those women is the Duchess of Sussex, who stole the show just by showing up.
Some of Hollywood’s biggest A-listers were suddenly reduced to fangirls, whispering amongst themselves. One woman who wasn’t afraid to ask for a selfie is Garcelle Beauvais. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star later bragged on stage, “I took a picture with Meghan Markle, so I can die now.”

As attendees and honorees noshed on upscale snacks, Duchess Meghan brought idle conversation to a halt as she made her way through the room. The Suits star was supposed to have been honored in 2022 but had to withdraw when her husband Prince Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, passed away.
Long before she was a TV star, Meg was advocating on behalf of women. She very famously took on corporate giant Proctor & Gamble when she was just 11 and was offended by their sexist ad for dishwashing liquid. After the sixth grader wrote to the company’s president, P&G changed the ad.
Now that she’s a married mother of two, Meghan is still using her fame to advocate for others. She and Harry head up their non-profit Archewell “to unleash the power of compassion to drive systemic cultural change.”
Though her children have royal blood running in their veins, Meghan hasn’t forgotten her early roots. She still has a heart for others.
On the red carpet, the Duchess hinted about “so many exciting things on the slate” that she couldn’t wait to announce. “I’m just really proud of what we’re creating,” she said. “My husband is loving it, too. It’s really fun.”
