Erika Jayne is known for saying controversial and tone-deaf things statements. We all know this and it’s hard to be surprised by anything she says at this point. Or maybe not.
This season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was looking like a possible redemption arc for the Vegas lounge singer. But she blew that to smithereens early on in one particular scene with her therapist.
In case you missed it – Erika asked her therapist how to have empathy.
Taking the high road, with a dose of empathy (sometimes)
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Erika pulled the ole “bad editing” card when asked about the surprising scene. “No, my question was this: How do you find empathy for people who have mistreated you. That’s really the question,” said Erika.
The interviewer told Erika that this was “helpful context” and she was quick to agree. She griped, “When I saw this, I’m like, ‘Come on.'” Yeah, I think the viewers said the same thing. Erika then added that the context was “beyond helpful,” but insinuated that the rest of her conversation was scrapped.
The longtime RHOBH star concluded, “Well, [my therapist] said take the high road. And I’m trying, and then sometimes I don’t do it.”
Can Erika still redeem herself?
Since the damning allegations of financial bamboozling on the part of her estranged husband, Erika has worked overtime to maintain her innocence. And while she swears she didn’t profit off his swindling, her comments on the matter were hard to swallow. Who could forget when she told the cast she only gives a f*ck about herself during a discussion about the victims?
So has Erika really learned to have any empathy? Or has she just learned to hide her obvious selfishness and penchant for believing she is the victim in all of this?
Just because Erika is calmer this season, it doesn’t mean she’s any wiser. Let’s see if the rest of the season offers Erika any chance of redemption, as small as it may be.
