Real Housewives of Miami star Julia Lemigova has not been shy about wanting to add to her family. Along with wife, Martina Navratilova, the subject of adoption had come up as her kids began leaving for college.
Then life blew those plans apart when Martina began fighting for her life – again. Also, f**k cancer. At the beginning of 2023, Martina revealed she received a double diagnosis of Stage 1 throat cancer and an unrelated early-stage breast cancer. By March she pretty much said adoption plans were off.
Now, after Martina made cancer her bitch, it appears the door might be opening back up to welcoming another kiddo. Page Six has the details.
It was a cancer-free Christmas
Fans of RHOM know how Julia struggled when her kids left home and that opened the adoption discussion with Martina. In June, the Wimbledon legend announced she beat the disease and everything was getting back to normal. Now a new normal might be in the works.
“Our adoption plans were on hold,” Julia began. Maybe now those plans aren’t so much on hold. “But we’re still not closing the door on those plans,” she added.
In a previous interview, Martina shared, “I think [adoption] was a nice thought for a while, but I think this has brought it into sharp focus — you know, I’m not really the youngest anymore and I don’t want to be the grandmother on the playground.”
According to Julia, those feelings have changed. “I hope that we will soon expand our family,” she said. In the interim, Julia was quite happy to have her two daughters home for the holidays.
“This Christmas, it felt like there was a real reason to celebrate. It meant so much for all of us to be together as a family, and have a Czech dinner a couple nights before Christmas to honor Martina’s childhood and home.”
