Tom Sandoval has said and done some stupid things, but this one might have taken the cake. Tom compared Scandoval to the murder of George Floyd. Once he said it, Guerdy Abraira did not hold back in her response.
In an interview released on February 20, when asked how he thought Scandoval became so big, Tom told the New York Times, “I’m not a pop-culture historian really, but I witnessed the O.J. Simpson thing and George Floyd and all these big things, which is really weird to compare this to that, I think, but do you think in a weird way it’s a little bit the same?”
It should go without saying, but the Vanderpump Rules star’s comments were wildly off the mark. A source close to Sandoval defended his intent to us here at Reality Tea, saying, “He was comparing the scandal to other national news stories that made huge headlines globally. That’s it.” But Real Housewives of Miami’s most fabulous cast member wasn’t having it.
Guerdy and Katie Maloney call out Sandoval for George Floyd comment
The Instagram account @bravobybetches posted the quote, writing, “Tom Sandoval making this comparison in the @nytimes is WILD.” The post garnered a fast and vocal response. Katie Maloney commented, “The f*ck?” also writing, “Hey Tom Schwartz you wanna come explain what he was really trying to say?”
Guerdy also joined the comment section, writing, “The disrespect…and on black history month…WOW just plz [shush emoji, zipped-mouth emoji].” In another comment, she tagged Tom and wrote, “PLEASE reflect on this repulsive statement you made (regarding GEORGE FLOYD r.i.p) especially on black history month and take it back!! NOT OK! An immediate apology is in order Sir!”
She also added the post to her story, further writing, “IS THIS GUY SERIOUS?! The disrespect (regarding George Floyd) is beyond [mind blowing.] And on #blackhistorymonth.” Guerdy did not miss with this one, especially in the demand for an apology.
Tom’s comments minimized George Floyd’s death to an unbelievable degree, not to mention the social revolution that occurred as a result. An apology is definitely in order.
