Over the years, Kyle Richards has been accused of not sharing her authentic life on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. But this season, she faced more scrutiny than ever.
Before RHOBH Season 13 started airing, Kyle and her husband Mauricio Umansky announced their their split after 20+ years of marriage. As the season played out for viewers, Kyle seemed more and more evasive about the state of her marriage. Not to mention the “are-they-aren’t-they” nature of her friendship with country singer Morgan Wade.
But in a sneak peek at part three of the RHOBH reunion, Kyle gets more candid than usual when it comes to the cheating rumors that have long plagued her marriage.
Kyle had her trust issues with Mauricio
While discussing the split, Kyle told host Andy Cohen that the whispers of Mauricio cheating on her began to “chip away” at her. She also noted that these rumors surfaced back in Season 4 of RHOBH.
“He would say to me, ‘You know, we can’t care. We know the truth and you know. Of course, there’s always that little voice in my head like, ‘What if this is true?’” Kyle stated.
Kyle’s sister and (sort of?) castmate Kathy Hilton was present on the reunion couch for this exchange and took the opportunity to back Kyle up. Kathy chimed in, “Even if they’re not true, the damage is done no matter what.”
Erika Jayne, who is more than familiar with gossip, also came to Kyle’s defense, referring to what Kyle dealt with as a “campaign of whispers.”
The down side of being “high profile”
While a tearful Kyle explained how the rumors wore down her trust and created insecurities, Kathy chalked much of it up to being a “high-profile figure.” Said Kathy, “People I know, when you’re high profile, they’re gonna say, ‘You’re this, you’re that.’ They’re gonna make stories up.”
Despite their ups and downs, Kathy seemed to have plenty of knowledge about Kyle’s marital problems. She went on to say that Kyle had been considering a split for “three or four years.”
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reunion concludes Wednesday, March 13 at 8/7c on Bravo.
