Why Melissa Gorga Finds Raising Teenage Boys Easier Than Girls

As a mom of three, Melissa Gorga of the Real Housewives of New Jersey has a lot of experience with raising kids. One takeaway she’s learned in her years of parenting is that it’s easier to raise her two teenage boys than her teenage daughter.

“I would say raising a teenage girl is harder than the boys,” she shared. And it’s not because her daughter was bad but because there were so many more shades and complexities to raising her daughter. While with her sons, it’s more straightforward.

They’re just easy

Melissa clarifies that Antonia is a good kid. However, things get a lot more complicated with her. “There are a lot more emotions and feelings and ups and downs with girls,” Melissa explained.

On the flip side, she said, “The boys are just angels. They really are. They’re just easy. They just need a lot of rides. And they’re hungry all the time.”

So Melissa needs to be more mindful of Antonio’s emotional journey. With Joey and Gino, on the other hand, she just has to make sure there’s plenty of food at home. However, she did mention that one of her pet peeves with the boys is that they always want to order food, even with a fully stocked kitchen.

“They want DoorDash randomly, constantly, even when there is a full fridge, and nothing drives me more insane,” she said.

Besties

Speaking of teenage boys, Melissa also enjoys the fact that her son Gino is so close to fellow RHONJ castmate Rachel Fuda‘s son Jaiden.

“It’s nice to call Rachel, and she’ll tell me if Gino likes a girl because Gino won’t tell me,” Melissa laughed. “She’ll be like, ‘Oh, Jaiden told me that Gino likes a girl.’ It’s nice to have someone to banter off of.”

“Our boys are very close,” Rachel added. “So we have a good laugh about the stories about the kids.”

Unlike Melissa, though, Rachel feels that raising a teenage boy is difficult. “Everything about raising a teenage boy is challenging,” she admitted. “It’s like you want to give them enough rope and build that trust and give them their freedom, but they’re also still kids. How much is too much?”

However, it might be more challenging for Rachel right now because Jaiden is a teenager while her daughters are still toddlers.
