Real Housewives of Dubai star Sara Al Madani doesn’t suffer fools. Or fame whores.
When she realized how “thirsty” her now-ex-beau Akin Fontana was, she not only broke up with him. She hired a detective to look into his background. (Bo Dietl, is that you?)
“There’s a problem when there’s a grown-ass man so thirsty for fame … [When] he would use you to [be on TV],” Al Madani says of her German ex-boyfriend.
Akin shows his “true colors”
“I remember when we were filming, he went back to Germany,” Sara shares. “And he’s like, ‘So when am I coming back for more?’ I said, ‘Darling, it’s done. We’re done filming this, that part of my life.’”
Apparently, Akin didn’t take that news in stride.
“He’s like, ‘How dare you take me off the show. How dare you.’ And I’m like, ‘Bro,'” Sara remembers. “I was like, ‘I’m confused.’” But Sara’s got receipts, because she saved all of his incriminating messages.
The saddest part of all of this is that when Akin was in Dubai visiting, Sara’s seven-year-old son Maktoum was absolutely smitten with him. Little man nicknamed the model a “caramel seduction” and wanted to know when Akin was going to become his new daddy. Poor little guy. This is why you should never involve a child in a new relationship. Their little hearts are fragile.
The twice-divorced single mom has been clear that she wants to marry again and have more children. She feels that Akin took advantage of that.
“He was rushing to get married after two months of meeting each other,” she recalls. “He wanted to rush into marriage, and it was weird.”
“He’s like, ‘I want to get married.’ And I’m like, ‘Bro, I don’t even know you,'” Sara continues. “When I say I want to get married, that’s my end goal — that doesn’t mean I want to marry Akin. It means in the end, I want to get married and have kids. I’m not dating for fun.”
Both Akin’s love of the limelight and his unsettling views on marriage caused Sara to back away from their relationship, ultimately ending it.
Jealous and controlling
Sara also noticed that Akin was “extremely controlling.” Even though they were only dating, he allegedly forbade her from working out at co-ed gyms.
“He told me that I could not go to a gym that has men in it,” Sara notes. “But he’s a trainer and he trains women. Have you seen how trainers stretch women?”
“I was like, ‘So you stretch women like that, and you train women, and I’m not allowed to go to a gym?’ So it was OK for him, [but] not OK for me.”
In addition, he was jealous (aka insecure). He often accused her of seeing other men, which made Sara suspicious of Akin’s behaviors when she wasn’t around. So she hired a PI to look into it.
“I hired a detective because he always accused me of doing weird things,” she says. “I’d be in my room sleeping. He’s like, ‘You’re with somebody.’ I’ll be giving a speech in a hotel, I’ll be in the hotel room after my speech dead, and he’s like, ‘Oh, you are with somebody.’”
“The only person who would do this is a person who’s doing that,” she reasons.
Though she’s reluctant to share specifics, Sara claims her PI found incriminating information. “I caught everything,” she teases.
“And FYI, just in case Akin is watching this, I’m in a WhatsApp group with all your exes, and they’re freakin’ awesome, and I love them,” she says. “I know everything, and I have receipts as well.”
Akin’s response
“I’m shocked and deeply saddened by the accusations being made against me,” Akin responded. “These statements are entirely untrue, and it’s confusing, weird, and shocking to me that she’s choosing to speak out with these rumors and false accusations now, nearly a year after our breakup … Breakups can be difficult, and I understand that emotions can run high, but I am not a friend of revenge, negativity, or speaking badly about someone just for attention.”
He added that he “could say many things in response” to his ex — but has “no interest in adding to the drama.” Ooh, so let’s add “vindictive” to his list of character flaws.
The breakup, which is expected to play out on RHODubai, hasn’t changed Sara’s outlook on love. She’s still hopeful she’ll find a partner.
“There’s eight billion people in the world,” she says. “You think Akin or any of my exes are going to ruin that for me? No way.”
The Real Housewives of Dubai airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
