There’s a whole lot of messiness going down in Selling Sunset Season 8, but apparently, Alanna Gold is the one who really crossed a line. She falsely claimed that she owned “a little Western town in the desert,” and now, the residents are clapping back.
The community Alanna said she owned is an area near Los Angeles called Pioneertown. On Selling Sunset, she joked about being the “sheriff of the town.” Meanwhile, the people of Pioneertown weren’t laughing.
You can’t silence the people of Pioneertown
After Alanna made the unfounded statement about owning Pioneertown, the residents of the town went to the printing press and released a statement via the Pioneertown Gazette. Not only did they clarify that Alanna doesn’t “own” the town, but they also demanded an apology from the Selling Sunset newbie.
“The baseless claims by Selling Sunset’s Alanna Gold that she ‘owns Pioneertown’ undermines 78 years of internationally celebrated film, arts and cultural history,” the statement read.
It continued, “These claims belittle generations of artists, neighbors, nature lovers, community members, musicians, small business owners and otherwise magnificent people of Pioneertown.”
Although Alanna eagerly claimed in Season 8 that she “owned” the town, the Pioneertown Gazette explained that she owns less than 1%. Apparently, more than “100 independent parties” actually own the area. There isn’t one sole owner. So, this is like someone having an apartment in Manhattan but saying they own an island.
The statement explained, “[Alanna] has a small minority non-controlling interest in an entity that owns six of thirty-five parcels in the Mane Street area, constituting less than 1% of Pioneertown’s total 640 acres. The claim that she owns the ‘entire town’ is verifiably false.”
Alanna Gold issued an apology to Pioneertown
After the Pioneertown Gazette dragged her, Alanna had no choice but to issue an apology. The Independent got a copy of the statement she issued to the Pioneertown residents. In the letter, she explained where her love for the town started. She and her husband had their first date there. They later returned for their wedding. So, it holds a special place in her heart, but she admitted she doesn’t own it, per se.
“I want to reach out to personally say I am so deeply sorry for the confusion I have caused,” Alanna wrote. “I certainly do not own Pioneertown, I never should have said that, and I apologize for doing so.”
She continued, “I want you to know that I did not mean any harm, I absolutely love Pioneertown and I simply got too excited talking about it.”
Alanna has reportedly been reaching out directly to the Pioneertown residents to personally apologize for her offensive exaggeration. With only 420 people in the town, she’ll be able to get to everybody by the end of the week.
Selling Sunset Season 8 is streaming on Netflix.
