Julie Chrisley is not a fan of prison. That’s the whole point, as victims would rather not see their perpetrators living it up in luxury. But Julie is being extra, even though her charges are criminal AF. Therefore, this Chrisley Knows Best alum snagged herself a hearing, hoping to shave several years off of her sentence. However, bank fraud and tax evasion are serious crimes, so Julie failed to get her wish. Instead, this judge doubled down on the original ruling, so now, Julie is returning to her jail cell to finish her seven-year punishment.
Julie Chrisley tried to lessen her sentence, but the judge denied her ask
In 2022, a jury found Julie and her husband, Todd Chrisley, guilty of conspiring to defraud community banks out of more than $30 million using fraudulent loans. These two funbags were also found guilty of tax evasion. Do not hide your earnings, reality television stars. We have been here before, and this storyline is wearing me out.
Prison, however, is wearing out Julie. Therefore, Alex Little, her attorney, intervened. In June, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals concluded that insufficient evidence existed on Julie’s roles in these crimes. As a result, her case returned to a lower court for resentencing. Luckily for all, US Weekly picked this story up, citing, “While this is not a dismissal of the case against her, it will result in [a] new sentence conforming with the Appeals’ Court’s instructions.”
As for this new sentence, Julie desired to reduce her time spent behind bars to no more than five years. Her attorney stressed that Julie only played a small role in these crimes, and she understands that her “scattered offenses” were “dramatic mistakes.” He also noted that Julie has been on her best behavior while taking advantage of multiple enrichment opportunities during her 20 months in prison. A round of applause for these 70 certificates, anyone?
What does suck is the situation this leaves their children in. However, as AP News reported, U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross quipped, “I am not the one who made the choices to put the children in that situation.” Therefore, an unchanged verdict was the result. Julie still has seven years left to serve.
Cue an appeal in 3, 2, 1.
