The Golden Bachelorette is on a roll and Joan Vassos is closer than ever to finding her second great love! Episode 2 featured three dates, two upbeat group dates and a very special one-on-one. After just one week, Joan has already formed strong connections with many of the men. Week 2 of The Golden Bachelorette was filled with laughs, joy, and of course a couple of tears. Here’s everything that went down during The Golden Bachelorette Episode 2, just in case you weren’t able to tune in!
Joan took eight of the men back to high school prom
At the beginning of the episode, host Jesse Palmer explained the process to the men. There would be two group dates, along with a one-on-one date. Charles L made the room crack up when he asked Jesse to repeat, he’s already one of my favorites! Thankfully, Charles L was selected for the first group date along with seven other men. Joan surprised them with the perfect first date, Senior Senior prom!
The event kicked off with a dance-off between the men to none other than Taylor Dayne, who Jordan apparently went on a date with five years ago. That’s not the only fun fact of the night, as Gary is also Tina Turner’s godson. On a more serious note, Jonathan opened up to Joan about his decision not to go to prom in high school. Jonathan had asked a girl to the prom who accepted but later canceled a week before. Poor Jonathan didn’t deserve that! Charles L also opened up to Joan about the passing of his wife, which she instantly empathized with.
The end of the night calls for Joan to crown a prom king and her decision is a no-brainer. Joan chose Jonathan and thanked him for opening up about his prom-related heartache from the past. Jonathan was touched by Joan’s gesture and the pair shared a romantic dance to end the evening. As he was crowned prom king, Jonathan was also the recipient of the group date rose.
A fun day at Disneyland for Joan and Chock
Back at the mansion, Chock is the lucky recipient of the season’s first one-on-one date. Joan has a special surprise for Chock, she’s taking him to Disneyland! This might be the best one-on-one date in Bachelor Nation history. Joan and Chock had a blast during their Disney date and went on classic rides together like Dumbo and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The pair also got to spend time in Star Wars Land, where they got to try the iconic blue milk and meet R2D2!
During the dinner portion of their date, Joan and Chock began to open up and talk about their pasts. Chock told Joan about the tragic loss of Cathy, who passed away from brain cancer before they were able to get married and start a life together. Joan explained that she was in a similar situation with her husband John and admitted that she felt a very strong connection with Chock. After receiving the rose, Chock accompanied Joan to watch the fireworks to end their magical date.
The second annual Golden talent show took place during The Golden Bachelorette Episode 2
To wrap up the week, the men who didn’t participate in the first two dates got ready for the second group date. They soon found out that they would be participating in the second annual Golden talent show! For those who might be rusty on Golden Bachelor history, Joan won the first annual Golden Talent Show during Gerry Turner’s season. While most of the men are surprised, Kim admitted that he already had a song prepared as he suspected he might have to take part in a talent show. We’re so here for Kim’s energy!
Loni Love was the guest judge for the event, who sat down with Joan and Jesse to be entertained by the men’s talents. Gregg kicked the show off with a comedy routine, while Charles K showed off his strength by punching a board. Jack’s sock puppet routine fell short with the men but Joan was amused by Pascal’s talent of giving a mannequin a haircut. Kim sang his pre-written song which nearly brought Joan to tears and even earned him a kiss. However, it was Dan’s ribbon dance that ultimately won the competition and earned him a one-on-one dinner with Joan.
During the dinner, Dan opened up to Joan about his health. Dan had chosen the ribbon dance because he felt it worked well with his hand tremors, which he originally felt insecure about. However, after telling Joan about his complicated history with diabetes which almost killed him, Dan felt seen by Joan. Dan received the group date rose and became the third man to automatically make it to next week.
A fun barbeque and a not so fun rose ceremony
While the rose ceremony is typically preceded by a cocktail party, the men and Joan decided a barbeque was a better idea for this week. The Golden Bachelorette isn’t as dramatic as the regular Bachelorette, the men did quarrel a bit over how to cook their burgers and corn. This is the type of drama I don’t mind at all!
The barbeque was a great opportunity for the men to get some more quality time with Joan. Jordan took the time to talk to Joan about his family, while Pascal decided to give Joan a tour of his closet. He is really something else! Joan brought Gary to tears by surprising him with a framed picture of them from the prom, which was very sweet of her. Mark had one of the biggest smiles on during the afternoon. And for good reason! He got his first kiss with Joan after teaching her some German.
Of course, the barbeque was followed by the dreaded rose ceremony. Joan had to say goodbye to four men this week, who ended up being Bob, Christopher, Jack, and Michael. While goodbyes are never easy, Joan is now down to 14 men, one of whom will be the lucky recipient of her final rose!
The Golden Bachelorette continues Wednesdays at 8/7c on ABC.
