For years, Kody Brown of Sister Wives has made it crystal clear that he no longer wants Meri Brown in his life. Even though she tried to wiggle her way back into his good graces, Kody often treated Meri quite poorly. Viewers watched as Kody often left Meri out of family functions. This made her feel extremely uncomfortable whenever she came for a visit. So it was a surprise when Kody claimed he wanted to befriend Meri.
Kody Brown doesn’t want another enemy
Meri was Kody’s first legal wife. The duo tied the knot in 1990 and were together for over 30 years. However, Kody lost trust in his wife after a catfishing incident, and the two grew apart. In the most recent Sister Wives episode, Kody shocked viewers by stating that he was trying his best to mend fences. In fact, Kody was hoping to move on in life as friends. But Meri has left Flagstaff and now lives in Utah, where she runs her own business. Kody shared that the last thing he needs right now is another enemy. The father of 18 noted he and Christine Brown and Janelle Brown just don’t get along.
In his confessional, Kody clarified that he had zero romantic feelings for Meri. Kody added, “She is upset that I’ve dragged this out for so long. I don’t blame her. I don’t want Meri to be in this place where she’s taking this toll, this direction that both Christine and Janelle have taken. Oh, yeah, ‘I need one more enemy right now.’” Kody went on to say, “I think if I were single and Meri was single, would I date her? No, I wouldn’t.” Kody’s words felt hollow as he tried to convince viewers he once profoundly cared.
Kody Brown can’t accept that his family has drifted apart
Kody, acting as if he wants to stay friends with Meri, is out of left field. For years, he has done his best to ignore Meri’s wants and make her feel unloved. So now claiming that he wants to be friends sounds selfish. The patriarch wants to stay on good terms to make himself feel better. He isn’t worried about how Meri feels which has been the crux of the problem for the last ten years.
During another confessional, Kody noted, “That’s why I’m trying to be in this place with Meri where it’s like, ‘Hey, can we just be friends and move on?’” Kody’s intentions feel as if he wants to sweep all the bad things he has ever done under the rug. It is annoying to observe since Kody has a way of failing to take accountability. Why would Meri want to continue to be friends with her ex when he did nothing to show that he could be a good friend?
Kody Brown is on bad terms with almost everyone
During Episode 3, the Browns attended a family event. Even though the cameras weren’t allowed to film, it was easy to figure out that the event was the oldest son Logan Brown’s wedding. Kody noted that the entire experience was “awkward” as all his wives kept their distance. Kody once again acted as if he was the only one hurting, noting, “Overall, the whole wedding was just sad for me. We used to go places as a family, and now, those who were my partners are almost like enemies. It’s awkward. I don’t know what the solution is.”
After expressing hope that he and Meri could be friends, Kody reminisced over his relationship with Christine, saying, “For Christine and I, I think that if we would have just broken up as friends, it would have been better for the whole family. Like, make it so we can get back together another time instead of polarizing everybody.” However, Christine has been less than nice to Kody since she left the polygamous family. The mother of six doesn’t want to be friends with her ex and doesn’t think Meri should be friends with Kody either. It is obvious that Kody is having issues understanding why he won’t be reconciling, but the man only has himself to blame.
