Carrie Ann Inaba Explains Worry Over Danny Amendola

Dancing with the Stars has gifted fans with a diverse and interesting cast for Season 33. Olympians Stephen Nedoroscik and Ilona Maher graced the ballroom, as did actresses Chandler Kinney and Tori Spelling. Con artist Anna Delvey also joined the cast. And, of course, athletes were also in the mix. NBA champ Dwight Howard packed his personality and sweet dance moves, as did NFL star Danny Amendola. I must confess that I’ve been a fan ever since Danny played for the New England Patriots. But now Judge Carrie Ann Inaba has some concerns about Danny’s recent ballroom performance.

Was Danny Amendola short of breath after his Week 2 performance?

During Oscars Night, Danny and his partner, fan-favorite Witney Carson, performed a Jive. Their high-flying routine was set to the song Danger Zone from the movie Top Gun. Their score, which included last week’s judges scores and fan votes, landed them in fifth place on the leaderboard. Considering that Danny has no dance experience, that’s not bad.

However, Carrie Ann was concerned about Danny after the duo finished their dance. “I thought he was having trouble catching his breath after the dance, and I wanted to offer him water. His eyes were a bit glazed over, and he wasn’t making eye contact with the judges while we were speaking,” Carrie Ann told Entertainment Weekly. She asked him if he was feeling okay during her critique.

She continued, “I’ve experienced many health challenges and I just wanted to check and see if he needed to sit down for a moment or have some water. Dance is quite a physical experience and after a dance performance, I’ve seen many people get dizzy and almost blackout.” Carrie Ann added, “His performance was sooooo high energy and he may have been surprised at how much it took out of him. That’s why they call it ‘DanceSport.'”

During her critique of Danny’s performance, Carrie Ann told him that he was “on fire.” He improved from his Tango the previous week. So, if Danny keeps improving, he could be flying right into the DWTS finale zone!

Dancing with the Stars Season 33 will return with two episodes on Monday, October 7, and Tuesday, October 8 at 8/7c on ABC and Disney+. The dances will be taped for Monday’s episode, and a live show will air on October 8, when another elimination will take place.
