Dr. Contessa Metcalfe Reveals ‘Horrible’ Below Deck Sailing Yacht Experience That Didn’t Air

On the Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 premiere, we got a Married to Medicine crossover when Dr. Contessa Metcalfe came on board as the co-primary charter guest. Who doesn’t love a good Bravo crossover moment?

Thanks to the magic of TV, everything seemed like smooth sailing with Dr. Contessa’s charter. In real life, Dr. Contessa said it was a much different story. A problem right before the charter threatened to sink their whole experience.

Dr. Contessa Metcalfe’s Below Deck Sailing Yacht mishap

Fortunately, Dr. Contessa’s mishap on BDSY was nowhere near the same level of cringe as Jill Zarin’s appearance on Below Deck. Dr. Contessa didn’t terrorize the crew. However, she revealed to Bravo’s The Daily Dish how she had a “bit of a situation” that didn’t make it to air.

“My luggage did not come,” Contessa revealed.

According to Contessa, she had always wanted to go to Ibiza and loves to “travel in style.” So, you can imagine the sheer horror of getting all the way there and realizing that the airline mishandled your bags.

“It was horrible, [but] everybody was so sweet,” she continued.

Fortunately, the Below Deck Season 5 crew sprung into action. She said that everyone offered to help. Daisy Kelliher literally loaned her one of her skirts. She also managed to go to “cutesy little shops” near the boat to buy some new outfits.

“Everybody was so nice. They even offered to go out in town and go shopping for me,” Contessa recalled. “I just have to just sing the praises of everybody.”

Crisis averted thanks to the helping hands of Captain Glenn Shephard’s crew. Once that got settled, Contessa said that she and her friends were able to let their hair down. She had nothing but positive things to say about the rest of the trip, and she can now check Ibiza off of her bucket list.

“The idea of going to the biggest party place in the world … I’ve always wanted to go, but almost felt like I was missing my opportunity. So when this came about, it was like, ‘Oh, we’ve got to do it.’ And then to be able to do it on a yacht — a huge sailboat — that’s just icing on the cake,” Contessa shared.

New episodes of Below Deck Sailing Yacht air on Bravo, Mondays at 9/8c.
