The Survivor New Era has brought an entirely new meaning to the show. In the New Era, the seasons are shorter, which seems fitting. While seasons in the Old Era lasted 39 days, those in the New Era were only 25 days long. Another key difference between the shows Eras are the advantages. The New Era features several new twists, that make it more enticing to watch. Survivor’s New Era also includes longer episodes that gives viewers more of an insight into what is going on.
In terms of tribes, the New Era begins with three of six. This differs from previous seasons, which often included two tribes of ten. The New Era format is more competitive and it’s interesting to watch three different teams compete. Each tribe also forms close connections, which help them with alliances when it comes to the merger.
While the New Era has introduced many entertaining pre-merge tribes, these three are by far our favorites!
Tika – Survivor 44
Survivor 44 was arguably one of the best New Era seasons. The season featured several standout cast members, including winner Yam Yam Arocho. His Survivor journey began with the Tika tribe, who were represented by the color purple. Yam Yam played a near-perfect game, so it wasn’t a surprise when the jury chose him as the winner. A worthy winner makes any season of Survivor better and Yam Yam’s winning truly made Survivor 44 a refreshing watch.
The Tika tribe was not only the best tribe of Survivor 44 but also one of the best pre-merge tribes of the New Era. Tika wasn’t the best at challenges, however, they did have excellent teamwork. The best tribes don’t always win every challenge but handle both wins and losses with grace. This is exactly what Tika did during Survivor 44.
Without a doubt, the best part of the Tika tribe was the iconic alliance between Yam Yam, Carolyn Wiger, and Carson Garrett. This alliance was a fan favorite from the jump, as all three castaways were very likable. Yam Yam, Carolyn, and Carson were a team until the end, with all three of them making the final four. It’s always nice to see an alliance make it from start to finish on a game like Survivor.
Nami – Survivor 46
The Nami tribe was a true force to be reckoned with during Survivor 46. From the start of the season, it was evident that orange Nami was a huge physical threat. The tribe dominated every pre-merge immunity challenge and as a result, was never sent to tribal council. This is quite an impressive feat, especially for a tribe in the Survivor New Era.
Nami also featured several standout players. Hunter McKnight was the backbone of Nami, who carried the tribe through most of the challenges. Apart from his physical strength, Hunter was likable as he was kind to everyone in his tribe and did his best not to betray anyone. Hunter’s closest ally in the game was Tevin Davis, also on Nami. While Tevin’s gameplay wasn’t perfect, he was hilarious and always entertaining.
Venus Vafa was another notable castaway on Nami, who made it to the final seven. While Venus faced some difficulty with her social game, her strength throughout the season was admirable. Despite being targeted by her fellow players for seemingly no reason, Venus kept her composure and played an overall good game. Of course, you can’t forget about Liz Wilcox, the last Nami player standing after placing fourth. Liz made it throughout the season without doing too much, which is impressive.
Tuku – Survivor 47
Survivor 47 is currently airing and so far the blue Tuku tribe appears to be the strongest. Tuku has only lost one immunity challenge out of the five so far. As a result, Tuku still has five players whereas the other two tribes only have four. Tuku is a big physical and strategic threat to the other tribes.
One of the standout castaways on Tuku at the moment is Gabe Ortis. Gabe found a hidden immunity idol during the premiere, which he later played at tribal council in episode two. This was a smart move because it removed a huge target from Gabe. At the moment, Gabe’s closest ally is Sue Smey, the oldest player at 59. Sue recently found an idol good until the final five, showing she is also a strong strategic player.
Caroline Vidmar is also a member of Gabe and Sue’s alliance, which could become a strong bond in the merger. While Caroline isn’t the best physical player, her impressive puzzle skills have helped the tribe during challenges. On the other hand, Kyle Ostwald is currently the strongest castaway on Tuku, making him a huge physical asset to the tribe. Tuku is well-rounded, so it will be interesting how things play out for them this season.
