I never thought I’d find myself rooting for Mary Cosby on the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. The returning snowflake had failed to win me over for Season 1 and Season 2. I found Mary to be a bit stuck up, uncooperative, and, quite frankly, mean to the other women. But Season 5 has shown Mary in a whole new light, and I am here for it. Mary has always been unabashedly herself, and with the start of a new era of the franchise, I think she is ready to prove she has always deserved a snowflake.
Mary Cosby is taking part in the activities
I was flabbergasted when I saw that Mary would take part in Heather Gay’s adventure high course. But the pastor suited up, climbed the tall scaffold and even encouraged some of her costars. This is a long way from last season’s Mary, who found it hard even to pretend she wanted to be a part of the friend group. While in Palm Springs at the Trixie Motel, Mary half-assed her drag costume. And point blankly refused to leave the sprinter van for the cast meal. Instead, she barked orders at production to get herself a tea and McDonald’s fish sandwich.
However, although Mary participated in the trust exercise, she still found time to bring shade. Firstly, she commented on how Meili Workman wasn’t as skinny as she thought she was. But let’s be honest, those harnesses do nothing for the imagination. And she did find time to shade Britani Bateman while they ate lunch.
Mary Cosby is staying clear of the drama
Mary has had enough of the petty drama over the years. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star did not so patiently deal with Jen Shah’s shenanigans. More than once, she found herself embroiled in scandalous behavior. She couldn’t seem to control her flood of prejudiced thoughts. And it didn’t help that former church parishioners accused her of running a cult. Instead, Mary is choosing to look on the brighter side of life.
This includes trying beer for the first time on the cast trip to Milwaukee. While on a trip to the Miller Valley Caves, Mary jumps out of her comfort zone and tries a bit of the high life. The women sat down in a cave, which was the first form of refrigeration for beer back in the day. The beer connoisseur asked who hadn’t had a beer before, and Mary fessed up, but she was familiar with champagne. Mary wasn’t convinced that Miller was the champagne of beers but noted, “I had no clue that there was an upscale beer. It’s regal.” And this is exactly why I am loving Mary this season.
Mary Cosby has kept her wit
When I heard Mary’s Season 5 tagline, “God is my shepherd, and you all look like sheep,” I knew we were in for a good season. Mary is still very much delivering her classic lines. In seasons past, she has given us “Wake up! Bobblehead!” and “Little girl.” And the new episodes have been no different. Mary has aimed most of her pointy words at Britani, though. When the actress announced she was officially with her boyfriend, Mary quipped, “I’m just trying to figure out why we care.” She also told Britani that she “doesn’t even know” her.
Mary has always been the source of comedic relief, and she has come to play for Season 5. In the trailer, she is heard telling someone, “You’re the biggest liar in Utah. You big fake!” And while ziplining, she notes that “she ate dirt.” I just love this new Mary. Needless to say, I think it has been proven that her comeback has already been a huge success. While I will admit I was worried that we would be given a snoozefest, Mary has really stepped up her game. Dare I say I am tuning in for her each week now? Who am I?
