When Mia Thornton first walked onto the Real Housewives of Potomac scene, fans could see that she lived an unconventional life. During Season 6, viewers learn that she is married to Gordon Thornton, who is much older than she is. Naturally, we, as fans, questioned what on earth they could have in common. Mia claims that they had been friends for years while she worked as a dancer/host at a gentlemen’s club. But was it a marriage of convenience or love? Let’s get to the bottom of this, shall we?
Mia Thornton is living a very single life (except for her boyfriend)
Mia and Gordon tied the knot in 2012 and seemed, for the most part, to live a traditional life together. But Season 8 showed the couple on the outs as Mia revealed she and Gordon had split up in July 2023. Mia shared via Page Six that the straw that broke the camel’s back was when he mocked her. Mia noted, “My breaking point was when he publicly decided to shame me.” At the time, G conducted multiple interviews, inferring that Mia liked to sleep with other men during their marriage. The mother of two added, “I said, ‘OK, this is not what we’re doing.’ And I filed. Yeah, I did because I’m like, ‘Let’s go ahead and get this clock rolling. I just don’t want to be a part of it.”
Gordon’s interviews were scathing as he noted to TMZ, “What really aggravates me through all of this is that I’d given her permission, and yet she still chooses to sneak around, chooses to lie, chooses to continually change her story about what’s going on and why she’s leaving me.” The breakup seemed messy and a bit confusing, leading fans to question what was really going on.

During the most recent episode of the Real Housewives of Potomac, Mia was backed into a corner by some of the women who felt she wasn’t being honest about her marriage. Mia had just confirmed that Gordon had moved into her building to be closer to the kids, noting, “You know, I love Gordon a lot. And he just needs to lean on me.” Mia then shared an odd antidote: “When Gordon left one weekend, he left his dirty laundry. Inc and I washed it for him.”
Now, by the looks on the women’s faces, many didn’t believe that this type of relationship worked. Mia went on to explain that “Inc did fold it. We took it to his apartment, and we put it away.” Mia’s long-time friend Jacqueline Blake confirmed that Inc was good for Mia, stating that she felt she and Gordon were “more like a business partnership,” with Gizelle Bryant asking, “Did G know it was business?” Mia sat quietly as her friend seemingly outed her marriage to the table. The couple were married 11 years, leaving Gizelle to add, “That’s a long business arrangement.”
Signs that Mia Thornton could have had a business arrangement marriage
It’s hard not to believe that Mia and Gordon might have had some kind of relationship agreement, especially when the news came from the horse’s mouth. Naturally, with such a huge age difference, some fans always thought there could have been an arrangement. During Season 8 of Real Housewives of Potomac, viewers watched Gordon and Mia go to couples therapy. But after watching, I got the impression that she was completely checked out. She could have easily been in denial about their situation of faking their love story for the show.
During the same season, Gordon subtly mentioned that he had prostate cancer and that he wasn’t able to perform anymore. During the conversation, G noted that he would provide a mutual arrangement that would benefit them both. I can see how Mia might have benefitted at a time, but Gordon isn’t the Daddy Moneybags that he used to be. In my opinion, it is plausible that the duo could have had a working agreement to live a certain life.
