The Golden Bachelorette Joan Vassos has remained steadfast in her decisions about how she wants to search for love. Her method includes removing the beds from the fantasy for a very specific purpose — to allow her to focus on “emotional intimacy.”
Joan has previously admitted to wanting to focus on making emotional connections above a physical connection in her search for love. Because of this, she wanted to be clear about her physical boundaries.
No beds and no nights spent together on Golden Bachelorette
The Golden Bachelorette shared her thoughts with US Weekly and defended her decision to take the beds out of the fantasy suites. The fantasy suites are well known for their open invite to “spend the night together” or take it to the “next level,” but Joan didn’t want this option.
For her, “sex was off the table.”
“I’m not a person who can have a physical relationship with more than one person,” Joan explained. “I wanted it to be agreed that we’d talk and have the conversations we need to have off-camera. We didn’t spend the night together.”
Hence no beds in the suites. Remove the temptation and send a clear message. Plus, this helped her get to know the men better. Not a bad idea considering one suitor had previously had a restraining order filed against him.
Joan was thankful that none of her suitors questioned her decision. Some of them even agreed with her choice.
“You have to think that the person you’re potentially ending up with probably does not want to think if you, last week, having slept with the guy he hands out with,” she explained. “It’s just weird.”
Although Joan is officially breaking the mold, she has no problem with former leads who did things their way. Or those who used the fantasy suites in other ways.
“Everybody needs to do it their way,” she said. “Each of us needs to engineer the journey that works best for us.”
The Golden Bachelorette airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
