Fans of the Real Housewives of New York questioned whether the reboot would succeed. After years of following around the OGs, Bravo took a gamble that may or may not pay off. The group of new, younger women gave a whole new look into the Big Apple. One trait that has started to define this new era is the women’s love of pranks. The amateur comedians take every chance they get to set one another up. While a practical joke is welcomed sometimes, these women take pulling their friend’s legs to a new level. Let’s rank the RHONY pranks.
3. Ubah Hassan loses her mind over missing phone during RHONY cast trip
Dodging rumors isn’t the only thing these women need to work on. A prank on Ubah Hassan got carried away during a Real Housewives of New York girls’ trip to Anguilla. Ubah left her phone in the taxi at one point, and Erin Lichy snatched it up, noting it was the perfect time for a prank. As viewers will recall, Erin was pushed into the pool at the start of the day, so she needed a good idea for a little payback. As the evening continued, Ubah became increasingly frantic as she tried to track down her phone. It didn’t help that Erin was even helping her look for it at one point.
The model’s anger stemmed from her family being worried about her safety if they couldn’t contact her. The following day, Ubah wakes up on the wrong side of the bed and tells everyone she is not happy with Erin. Eventually, the two get into a heated screaming match, during which Erin claims she felt unsafe because Ubah kept getting into her face. In a moment of anger, the model ripped Erin’s sunglasses off of her face and held them hostage for hours. Needless to say, a lesson was definitely learned on that day, and phones have not been taken since.
2. The RHONY baby prank gone wrong
During the most recent episode of Real Housewives of New York, Erin and Rebecca Minkoff plotted a dastardly prank that caused many to be in an uproar. The plan was as follows: Erin would spill the tea to Jessel Taank and Brynn Whitfield. During lunch, she shared that Rebecca was not only pregnant, but she supposedly had no clue who the father was and that it was likely not her husband’s. This narrative felt very murky, but the two friends ran with it. Naturally, Brynn and her big mouth informed the rest of the group, leaving Rebecca and Erin to have a pretend fight during dodgeball.
The paternity scandal prank didn’t go down well. It not only left viewers shaken, but Bravo kingpins Andy Cohen and Jeff Lewis also found the move déclassé. Andy noted, “I’m not a fan of a prank; I’ve got to be honest.” Jeff agreed, adding, “I think it’s a bad move. I think it’s self-producing. And I think that you lose trust in your audience. I think it’s a bad move. I don’t like pranks.”
1. RHONY star Jenna Lyons and her Pavolva were not bakery-worthy
There was a fly in the ointment or, in this case, a cockroach in the Pavlova. On another trip to Erin’s house in the Hamptons, a prank was born. While sharing a bed and giggling, she and Brynn decided to use plastic cockroaches as their villain. After seeing one, Brynn noted, “The cockroach looks real! This is a New York City cockroach.” You just knew these creepy crawlies would end up somewhere they did not belong. All day, Jenna Lyons had been bragging about her famed pavlova meringue-based dessert with fruit. Honestly, give me a chocolate cake daily since fruit is not a dessert in my book.
In her confessional Brynn shared, “We’re not trying to actually upset anyone. Just gross people out — shock value. Like, it’s going to make some people mad, for sure. Like, at least we get a laugh.” And gross their friends out they did. Jessel was the first to bite a bug as she screamed, “There is eight f*cking legs in my plate. Oh my god!” Ubah immediately spat out her mouthful and ran to throw up in Erin’s sink. I have to say that I enjoyed this prank.
