Real Housewives of Salt Lake City proved itself as an unexpected heavy hitter in the Bravoverse. But one thing the show also confirms is the general public’s fascination with Mormonism, however slight.
Indeed, RHOSLC seems to be doing as good as ever. The Season 5 midseason trailer just dropped and excitement is in the air. The stars look to be at their most confident yet. But RHOSLC has a bit of competition now that Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is on the block.
Spectators can see a bit of fun rivalry between the stars and shows themselves. Does the success of these Utah-based shows signal something about the public’s interest in different religions? Shed Media, the RHOSLC production company, seems to think so.
Is Shed Media developing two religious-based projects?
On November 18, Shed Media’s casting Instagram page put out a call for those who have been or are affiliated with any cult. “Now casting nationwide religious cult survivors,” the post read. “Did you survive a religious cult? Are you currently trying to get out? Do you have a family member who is currently in a cult?”
As far as how Shed might define “cult,” the post further asked, “Do you still have ties to a religious extremist group?” On October 2, Shed Casting made a somewhat similar post. That casting call sought out women and men, from teenagers to those in their early 30s. The post asked, “Are you and your friend group pushing against the cultural or religious norms you grew up with?”
“Is how you live your life considered taboo in your community? Are you ready to share your story?” It will be interesting to see if these casting calls are intertwined. Shed very well might be working on two shows related to individuals’ faith journeys. Moreover, prospective viewers have to wonder if Shed will opt for a tone like RHOSLC or something else entirely.
Real Housewives of Salt Lake City continues Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
