Jax Taylor’s Estranged Mother ‘Reached Out’ During His Rehab Stay

The Valley star Jax Taylor has been estranged from his mother, Marie Cauchi, for several years. They had a falling out when his dad passed away in 2017. Jax hadn’t seen her since the funeral.

But apparently, things in their relationship have changed for the better. While Jax was in the inpatient facility for his mental health over the summer, his mom reached out. Even though he hadn’t been in touch with her, she got in touch when she heard he was struggling.

“I think she got wind, like everyone else, through the tabloids,” Jax said. “She reached out to me while I was in the facility. She checked in on me every day.”

Jax Taylor wants his mom to meet her grandson

Because of their estrangement, Jax’s mom was not at his 2019 wedding to Brittany Cartwright. She has never met their three-year-old son Cruz. Since their reconciliation, Jax has sent Marie pictures of her grandson, and he hopes they can meet each other soon.

“I do want her to meet him, I think at some point,” he said. “I would regret it … if my son says, ‘Hey, why didn’t you try to work it out with your mom?… How come I … never met her?’ I think I would never forgive myself.”

While he doesn’t think he needs “to be in the best relationship” with his mom, he “would like to have a sit down with her.” He hopes to travel to Florida sometime soon to speak to Marie face-to-face.

According to Jax, during his last week in rehab he and his mom discussed meeting at some point. “She agreed to it,” he said. “So I’m going go to Florida and meet her one-on-one. And then eventually bring my son over.”

Jax’s estrangement started with his dad’s death

In a May 2023 episode of Scheana Shay’s Scheananigans podcast, Jax talked about his estrangement from his mom. They stopped speaking in 2017, following his dad Ronald Cauchi’s death from esophageal cancer during Vanderpump Rules Season 7.

At the time, Marie meant to shield Jax and his sister, Jenny Lynn Cauchi, from their father’s illness. Attempting to protect them from pain, she tried to hide the truth as long as possible. But the result was that they were unable to say goodbye to their dad. She didn’t even tell them when he was in the ICU in his last days.

On her podcast, Jax admitted to Scheana that he had reopened communication with his mom.

“I just thought for my son, it is the right thing to do, to reach out to her,” he told her. “I would just kick myself if something happened to her, and [Cruz] got older and said ‘Did you try? Did you put an effort in?’”

Jax and his mom were speaking via text message, but she only responded to him with short messages. “I honestly expected like a little bit more of a, you know, ‘I miss you’ kind of thing,” he told Scheana.

His then-wife Brittany spoke up to say that her mother-in-law had sent gifts to Cruz. She sent a pillow made out of one of Ron’s old zipper sweatshirts that he was fond of.

The message sent with the pillow said, “Everytime you hold this near, you know that I am here.”

The Valley is available to stream on Peacock.
