The Valley couple Kristen Doute and Luke Broderick are preparing to welcome their first baby.
“Luke and I didn’t want to have a big reveal party, but we did want the gender to be revealed to us!” Kristen said. “Brittany [Cartwright] is my best friend and we share an OB, so it made perfect sense to have my doctor call her with the news.” Britt enlisted Valley co-star (another of Kristen’s close friends) Zack Wickham to help her spring the surprise.
The Valley’s Kristen Doute and Luke Broderick are having a baby girl!
Zack and Brittany “kept the secret for almost a week” before spilling the news to the expectant parents.
“They had a large bag filled with pink balloons, completely hidden from us,” Kristen told US Weekly. “When we pulled the tie, the balloons came down, and we saw we were having a girl.” There were also “pink smoke cannons” to make the happy announcement even more dramatic.
“[Valley costars and friends] Nia and Danny Booko were there,” she continued. “Also Tom Schwartz. We also had a ton of friends and family on a private Zoom link for the reveal.”
Though previously convinced Baby Broderick would be a boy, Luke and Kristen “couldn’t be happier” to have a little girl on the way. “I guessed wrong 100 percent of the time when it came to my friends’ pregnancies and not shockingly, I wasn’t right for mine either,” she laughed.
Her fiancé initially felt they’d be having a girl, but “changed his mind the day of the reveal.” Kristen gushed. “Luke was made to be a girl dad.”
They settled on their baby’s name a “while” ago, but Kristen’s still deciding on a nursery theme. “Regardless of gender, it was always going to be neutral with pops of our chosen accent colors; cozy and a little bit boho,” she explained.
Luke and Kristen want a family first, then marriage
The couple announced in late November that they were expecting a baby, after conceiving via IUI (intrauterine insemination).
“I was relieved, overwhelmed, happy, excited, and nervous,” Kristen said. “The second I told Luke … he was joyful and beyond excited, to say the least! Our due date is in June, and we are really looking forward to expanding our little family and becoming parents!”
In September, Luke asked Kristen to marry him, following two years of dating.
The couple had a plan in place all along. Following their engagement, Luke laid down the law, insisting they would not plan a wedding until after they’d started a family. “I feel like we are on the baby train.”
Kristen previously expressed concerns about conceiving at her age. The Vanderpump Rules alum is 41, and any pregnancy after the age of 35 is considered to be “geriatric” (so sexist!). Kristen’s doctor suggested that they try a more natural process first, before taking more extreme measures.
She got further encouragement from her psychic, who told her last year, “I had a boy waiting on the other side for me but that I was not going to get pregnant [until I was] somewhere between 41 and 42.“
Sadly, Kristen and Luke suffered a miscarriage before conceiving their Rainbow Baby. But now they’re looking forward to meeting their little girl in just a few months. I wish them well.
