This was a crazy year filled with all sorts of unbelievable moments. Hence, the Reality Tea Awards 2024. While many of these moments involved real-life events, others played out on our screens. 2024 was a big year for reality television in particular, with no shortage of new shows and seasons. Of course, with more content comes more shocking moments that make our favorite reality shows so enticing to watch.
While 2024 included dozens of jaw-dropping moments on reality television, these five took the cake. Without further ado, here are our nominees and winner for the Reality Tea Most Shocking Reality TV Moment of the Year Award for 2024.
Nominee: Casa Amor in Love Island USA
Love Island USA Season 6 was one of the most captivating dating shows of 2024. While every season of Love Island features crazy twists and turns, Casa Amor is always the most dramatic. During Casa Amor, the men and women in the house are separated and are forced to temporarily say goodbye to the person they’re currently coupled with. Each group then meets a new group of singles, where they can decide to either couple up with someone new or stay loyal to their original partner.
Every Casa Amor twist on Love Island is crazy but Season 6’s was truly something else. During Season 6’s Casa Amor, many of the men in the villa failed to stay loyal to their original women and recoupled with several of the new bombshells. On the other hand, every original woman who had been in a relationship stayed loyal during the retreat. This Casa Amor was a massive shock, even for a show as unpredictable as Love Island.
Nominee: The Reality Von Tease RHOSLC Reveal
Another one of the most shocking reality television moments of the year was the infamous Reality Von Tease Scandal. The Reality Von Tease account was known for posting anonymously about women from The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. When newbie Monica Garcia joined the cast of RHOSLC, many viewers were excited to watch the new cast member. No one could’ve ever expected that Monica herself would end up being behind the Reality Von Tease account.
After finding out that Monica was behind the trolling account, Heather Gay confronted her about it during their Bermuda trip. In a moment that went viral, Heather told Monica she had “RECEIPTS! PROOF! TIMELINE! SCREENSHOTS! F*****G EVERYTHING!”. Monica admitted that she was partially behind the account, which caused the rest of the women to go off on her. This was truly a shock and I don’t think anyone could’ve ever seen this coming. The Real Housewives franchise has a lot of intense and dramatic moments but this one takes the cake.
Nominee: Danielle Cabral smashing a plastic cup into Jennifer Aydin’s face on RHONJ
The only thing that can be more dramatic than a scandal like Reality Von Tease on the Real Housewives is a physical altercation. This may not have happened on RHOSLC but it did during The Real Housewives of New Jersey Season 14. The brawl took place between Jennifer Aydin and Danielle Cabral. These two women have had a complicated relationship throughout their time on RHONJ. Nonetheless, their altercation on Season 14 was still quite a shock.
Danielle and Jennifer got into what initially seemed like a petty fight about their hairdressers and a photo shoot. However, things quickly escalated once Danielle raised her tone and called Jennifer dirty. Jennifer initially asked Danielle to calm down but pushed her away once she got in her face. This infuriated Danielle, who smashed a plastic cup in Jennifer’s face in response. Good old RHONJ.
Nominee: The VPR whole cast reboot announcement
For the last few years, Vanderpump Rules has been the talk of the town when it comes to Bravo shows. After the infamous Scandoval scandal, the show surged even more in popularity. Season 11 featured the cast dealing with the aftermath of the fallout and was an enjoyable watch from start to finish. Viewers expected to see more of this in Season 12 but an announcement a few weeks ago changed everything. The only returning cast member for Season 12 will be Lisa Vanderpump herself. Talk about an unexpected twist.
Season 12 will move the focus back to SUR and the life of the servers there. This should still be an interesting watch but longtime fans of the show can’t help but be a little disappointed. The original cast was always entertaining to watch and it’s a huge shock that not even one of them will be returning along with Lisa.
Winner: CT Tamburello and Trishelle Cannatella voting MJ Javid out of The Traitors
And now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for, the big winner reveal! While 2024 was filled with shocking moments, none was as big a shock as MJ Javid being voted out of The Traitors Season 2 at the final three. Toward the end of the game, it seemed like MJ had a decent shot of winning. That’s why it was such a shock when CT Tamburello and Trishelle Cannatella decided to banish her at the final three.
After banishing MJ, CT and Trishelle were left to split the prize money between themselves. MJ felt really betrayed by this and even blocked CT and Trishelle on social media. This was understandable, as MJ got to the final three thinking she would win. The Traitors is one of the most unpredictable reality shows on television, which makes it all the more addicting. Thank goodness Season 3 is almost here!
