Since James Kennedy joined Vanderpump Rules in 2015, he has been on fans’ radar. But not always for good reasons. While the English native created some made-for-TV moments like “Pumptini!” he also created strife among the group. He often had uncontrollable outbursts, which targeted his anger at the closest victim, and he struggled with substance abuse. Lisa Vanderpump often gave him chance after chance to improve. Every time, he was allowed to stay on the show as a veteran cast member. Now, more of his exes are choosing to speak out about his recent run-in with the law.
James Kennedy’s lawyers speak on his behalf
After a night of holiday celebrations at Kathy Hilton’s home, James was arrested on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge. TMZ reported that on Tuesday, December 10, Burbank Police were dispatched to a home after receiving a call about an argument between James and a woman. A witness told the police that they had seen the Vanderpump Rules star and a woman arguing loudly and watched the DJ grab her, but the police noted there were no visible signs of injury. The victim has not been identified yet. But it is worth noting that James and his girlfriend, Ally Lewber, were spotted together that evening. The duo have been dating since January 2022, just a few weeks after his split with Rachel Leviss.
This week, a spokesperson for James spoke with People about his arrest. The lawyer stated, “We are in the process of conducting our own investigation into the allegations levied by the Burbank Police Department against James.” The Vanderpump Rules star’s lawyer added, “We understand that there were no injuries, and we are hoping that, after careful review, the city’s attorneys will decide not to file formal charges.”
The Vanderpump Rules cast breaks their silence
The spokesperson confirmed that “The investigation determined it was a domestic incident, leading to Kennedy’s arrest … James was booked for misdemeanor domestic violence and later posted bail. Formal charges are pending review by the Burbank City Attorney’s office.” The outlet also noted that James had been acting off shortly before his arrest. The source added, “He was acting so erratic, running back and forth to the bar and body-checking people along the way. He appeared inebriated. Spent the evening mostly alone, but when he did speak to people, he appeared irritated and rude.”
Shortly after the news broke both Rachel and Kristen Doute spoke out about the alleged charges against James, whom they both dated. The Valley star wrote one word over her story that showed James’ arrest, “Finally.” The pair dated between 2013 and 2015 while filming Vanderpump Rules. A lot of their toxic relationship was caught by Bravo cameras, including the time James spit on her door during a heated argument. During their years together, James was also filmed calling the former model cruel names while arguing.
Rachel Leviss releases a statement regarding James Kennedy
Rachel dated James for more than five years before they got engaged in May 2021 and split less than a year later. The former SUR hostess took to her Instagram as she reacted to the news of James’ arrest. The storyline showed the headline “James Kennedy DV Arrest Was a Misunderstanding!!!! Gf Ally Standing By DJ.” Rachel wrote over the screenshot, “The amount of times I convinced myself that the abuse I endured by James Kennedy Georgiou was a ‘misunderstanding’ is sickening.’” Along with the caption, Rachel shared a link to her April podcast episode entitled “Bad at Love.”
Along with the social media posts, Rachel’s lawyers also shared a statement with People. Mark Geragos and Bryan Freedman, her attorney, shared, “We are aware of James Kennedy’s recent arrest for domestic violence. This news is, unfortunately, not surprising. Rachel’s lawsuit describes, in significant detail, Mr. Kennedy’s long history of erratic, violent behavior and substance abuse.” The statement continued, “Just as troubling, however, is that NBC and Evolution, who have known about Mr. Kennedy’s troubling behavior all along, have been engaged in a multi-year cover-up on his behalf. They, too, bear responsibility.” In Rachel’s lawsuit against Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix, she detailed her relationship with James, writing he was “a DJ prone to violent outbursts and grappling with long-standing substance abuse issues and emotional dysregulation.”
