The Hills alum Kristin Cavallari once had an absolute nightmare situation while on a family trip to the Bahamas.
On a 2020 vacation with her now-ex, Jay Cutler, and their children, Kristin woke up to find a masked intruder inside her vacation home, while she was sleeping next to one of her sons.
On December 17, Kristin shared the terrifying story on her podcast Let’s Be Honest.

Kristin and Jay had brought their children, Camden, Jaxon and Saylor, to the Bahamas for Spring Break. To this day, she still hasn’t told her kids, who were sleeping, what happened. But she admitted, it was “one of the scariest things” she had ever experienced. Even scarier than her complicated love life following her split with Jay.
It was March 2020, which is when the world stopped for Covid. “We ended up staying … for a month,” she said. “We were in … what we thought was safe, gated resort.”
The family was originally in a condo for most of the trip, but moved to a house for the last week. There was a problem with the AC unit, so the resort sent over a maintenance crew. The Very Cavallari star remembers that she’d left some of her Uncommon James jewelry collection “laid out” while the workers were there.
“That night, I had Camden in bed with me,” she remembered. “Camden and I went to bed early … so I didn’t really know where everyone was in the house.”
“I woke up to my bedroom door opening,” she continued, “[and] a man crawling on my bedroom floor. I was so out of it because I had just woken up, but I go, ‘What the f*ck are you doing?’”
The man was all in black with a ski mask on. He ran from the room when he realized she was awake. Half-asleep, it took the Laguna Beach star a minute to realize the man wasn’t her husband.
Kristin goes into “Mission Impossible” mode
“I was like, ‘Oh f*ck … I don’t know who that was,’” she said. “But because Camden was in bed with me … I didn’t scream … Your instincts just kick in. I honestly felt like I was in ‘Mission Impossible.’”
Instead, she picked up her phone and texted Jay, sleeping upstairs.
“Obviously, Jay didn’t respond,” she continued. “It was like 1 a.m. or something. So I’m like, ‘F*ck I have to go out in the house by myself and leave my son here in bed.’”
“You don’t think,” she explained. “You’re just like, ‘Go.’ I don’t know where anybody is. I look in the bedroom across the way. No one is in there.”
“I go upstairs, because Jay was upstairs with Jaxon and Saylor,” she went on. “I woke up Jay, and once I woke Jay up, then I got … really scared [and] started shaking … Until that point, I was … really calm.”
Authorities later arrested the man.
“Long story short, he took all the cash that we had,” she concluded. “But we ended up getting it back. We found out who it was: it was the HVAC guy.”
Shortly after returning from their trip, Kristin and Jay announced their separation. Shortly after their split, Kristin also ended Very Cavallari amid the divorce drama.
