RHONY’s Brynn Whitfield Reacts to Online Backlash: ‘I Wish I Could Say I Don’t Pay Attention’

It’s going to be a while before the internet stops talking about the explosive Real Housewives of New York finale. And RHONY’s Brynn Whitfield is getting the lion’s share of the online discussion. She shared that while she tries not to pay attention, it can get frustrating.

To be fair, Brynn can’t be surprised that people will have strong reactions to what happened during the RHONY Season 15 finale. And it wasn’t just the final episode, but a slow-building tension that bubbled over in Puerto Rico.

Brynn Whitfield wants to provide context when faced with online criticism

The latest season of RHONY and the sophomore season for the new cast saw several friendships crumble, alliances change, and frankly a lot of pot-stirring (mostly from Brynn TBH). It’s no wonder, her feud with Ubah Hassan festered and eventually exploded during their trip.

And now that the episode has aired, the online fallout has been intense. Brynn tries to take it in stride but admits it can be difficult.

“I wish I could say I don’t pay attention to any of it,” she admitted to Rolling Stone. “But I go through phases. It hurts and it’s frustrating because people don’t know the full story.”

She explained, “You’re only seeing 42 minutes of something that’s edited. It’s so tempting to explain yourself and provide more context because they’re making a very serious judgment about you.”

It wouldn’t be the first time a Real Housewife has blamed the edit for a bad portrayal. However, there is a kernel of truth in the claim that viewers only see a part of the whole story. Still, they can make online assertions about what they saw. And they most certainly always will, which is probably why Brynn has limited comments on her social media.

“If you’re not careful, you could get sucked into it,” Brynn adds about online comments and criticisms. “But then you exercise the mute button on social media. At the end of the day, I am a stranger and you’re seeing like 10 percent of the real me.”

So practicing grace and compassion like Jenna Lyons is probably a good high road to take. Will Brynn be able to mend these fences? Only time will tell. We’ll probably get more insight once the reunion airs.

The Real Housewives of New York two-part reunion kicks off Tuesday, January 28, at 9 pm on Bravo.
