Erika Jayne is a performance tour-de-force between the acting, the singing, and the dancing. She made her fame on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. From there, she branched off into a music career and starred on Broadway.
After the Covid epidemic cut her stage run short, Erika is back on Broadway. She is starring as Roxie Hart in Chicago. It’s been such a success that Erika’s time has been extended an additional two weeks until February 23.
Some of it hits “too close to home” for Erika Jayne
The fact that Erika is back onstage after public opinion turned against her is admirable to say the least. The RHOBH star called her return a “dream come true.”
“I’m a completely different human being. I’ve gone through so much and the words just hit a little different,” the Pretty Mess singer told Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast.
She added, “Doing this show hits a little different. There are certain things that hit a little too close to home sometimes.”
Erika’s involvement in her ex-husband Tom Girardi’s embezzlement case was questioned by her RHOBH costars and the public at large. She was also investigated on the matter but found innocent of any involvement in the $15 million scandal.
Her triumphant return is symbolic of the role in question. Erika told Page Six that she feels “very connected” to Roxie’s character, especially the song “Nowadays.”
“When you do something like ‘Nowadays,’ when you say something like ‘gone,’ ‘all gone,’ it is all gone for me,” she mused.
“My whole previous life when I was here is gone, so now there’s a new life,” Erika said. “There’s a lot of themes like that in the show that resonate.”
Erika had “unfinished business” on Broadway
Erika then gushed about her time in New York, calling it the “best city in the world.” She’s “so happy” to be back, and recalled living there in her youth.
“I moved here when I was 18, so I have been in and out of the city for over 30 years. I love New York City,” she shared. “Though I haven’t been able to have much fun because we’ve been rehearsing and working, but I’ll get to it.”
“I saw them all. I saw ‘Cats,’ I saw ‘Starlight Express,’ I saw ‘Les Mis,’” Erika said of seeing the “80s heyday show.” She added, “I saw them all.”
Next up, for her viewing pleasure, Erika wants to see Gypsy starring Audra McDonald. She got good recommendations from friends.
Should Erika’s work schedule permit, she’ll be out on the town again. But for now, it’s all about rehearsals and performances.
“I did about 80 shows five years ago and we were cut short. We had unfinished business. So I came back just for three weeks and now we got extended. It’s lovely,” she said.
“Look, any time that you’re able to do something that you really love, it’s a dream come true — especially doing this, as a kid of musical theater,” Erika concluded.
